Courtesy of Big screens Guide. Can you see the names? Sorry, when I uploaded, it was small picture so I zoom it to make it bigger and the blur happened. I think the first one is easy to read- Paranormal 2 followed by Jack. I see one says Residential Evil. Anything else?
Courtesy of Loop Net. A very good picture they took! Better than Google did. This was taken in 2010! This means the place was up for sale as early as 2010! They had hard time selling for 4 years. Finally got sold in 2014 and now its a call center.
Courtesy of Mark Falso. Customized photographs into panorama to include all of the building. I see a ticket stand booth! Was that patrons had to pay for parking to go enjoy entertainment? Crazy. Like any American theme parks have parking passes! The mini golf course was in that big glass enclosure.
Courtesy of Way Market. You can see the rink followed by Mini-golf course (that blue water.. yuck!) the scaled down model of the real Hollywood sign in Hollywood, California in Greater Los Angeles Metro. The sign for the Dragon Roller Coaster. It is a motorized roller coaster you can ride around 3 times.
Courtesy of Yelp. Oh those ice cream shakes look good! And more rides!

Hollywood Connection Family Fun Center 3217 Decker Lake Dr., West Valley City, UT
Hollywood Connection Family Fun Center was an entertainment center. All indoors multi-entertainment complex. It was an entertainment center mall if you want to call it. Many indoor entertainment complexes closed including this one, 49th Galleria, Funscape, and others. It is sad. It was owned by Carmike Cinemas. I never heard of this chain but was this a concept entertainment center? If it was going to be successful, I am sure they would have added more places like this. Ah! They did. There is one in Georgia. I am so sorry skaters and fans of entertainment/recreation. In past 10 years or so, movie theaters are having hard time financially and with COVID lockdowns, the theaters (and rinks) are really dying. They did not update the interior because the place was up for sale as early as January 15, 2010 according to Loop Net!
This was a very modern state-of-art complex center that to you it appeared to look like a shopping mall of sort. But they are all same sort of appearance that are all bricks with some arches here and there for windows. It had everything in that complex. They had a Facebook and I am sure website but I do not see it on search.
The facility looked more like a mall or a very large department store. It had 157,000 Square Feet (according to Loop Net) or 165,000 Square Feet (according to KSL). It is a very large building that it had included not just a roller rink, it had Carmike Cinemas Ritz 15 movie theaters, amusement rides including a roller coaster, miniature golf, and a large arcade with video and redemption games. It was open all year round because it was an indoor entertainment mall.
The theaters had stadium seating and had digital sound system in all screens and had THX certification in five of the screens.
They had a carousel 28 feet in diameter and 20 foot high, a huge 21,000 square foot 18 hole miniature gold course, Dragon roller coaster (Added in 2001 and closed in 2013), bumper cars, video arcade, laser tag, a 30 foot Balloon Tower ride, party rooms, an indoor playstation for children, a new ride called the Crazy Bus, a restaurant and an ice cream parlor.
From what I saw their name on the sign was way small when you look from the distance. The location was perfect with plenty of parking and right cross the street from a major 9,000 seat stadium which all together appeared to be in coordination because of both have similar architectural styles, open parking spaces and plenty of them for overflow just in case. And both very modern. The hotels were right by those two venues. This is why the entertainment center was correct in location-location-location. But why close?
It was opened in 1998 but only to close in November 14, 2014. I wish I had more photos of the interior.
I can image why they closed for good. They sold it to another company. In my opinion, people have complained that they never updated the interior. They ran the place for 16 years. Arcade games broken, carpet looked dirty and worn, even one said walls appeared not washed. Things like that. Normally you are supposed to update the appearance every 7 years. Go ask hotel chains about that. They do every 7 years. Even their appearance. I live right by the hotel district in Town of Salina, NY (Liverpool, NY by where the Cross-road of the North East is where Interstates 81 and 90 meet), they do upgrade every 10 years on exterior but sooner for interior. I have watched them. Rinks, please do listen to your customers, thank you.
it is a shame that they wasted their resources to built this multi-million dollar complex that they could not update interior with repairs or replacement?
People said the price is cheap for admission. They may have set maybe bit too low? A bit pricer can help offset the expenses of entire complex.
Apparently no other entertainment company wanted to purchase it. Instead it was sold to a company for a call-center! Can they have that many people to work as operators? Ha.
If you want to see what it is like, it is somewhat similar to the Georgia version and found in YouTube but not showing here because it may be slight different. I can tell with the walls and windows to compare.
The Interior.
The interior was very entertainment center. It would have mall-like halls to go to certain section of entertainment. The floor plan showed that the theaters (15 screens) would be on the right side when you face the front from parking lot. The rink was to the left in that Arch-Curved roof. The main doors were in center so it would be a walk from center to another area. It had 15 screens theaters, a carousel, a roller coaster called Dragon, and I do not know what else amusement rides, mini golf courses, roller rink, arcades, bumper cars, etc. This place had two stories. If layout on one floor it would be huge. It is like a shopping mall because of two stories. More on interior, please re-read above.
The rink was Poured Concrete with Blue coat of paint as well as White for center. It had polyurethane to protect the floor. It had Figure Skating outlines, Roller Derby outlines, and Roller Hockey outlines.
The Exterior.
Modernism. Red Bricks, with arched curved roofs that have windows. Others have Flat roof so it was a mixed like a Pablo Picasso architecture. Googie? Not really. It is more Modernism. I read reviews of Yelp and Trip Advisor, patrons said that the exterior is excellent like new always. It would have lasted long time but the interior needed work.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A Floor: Likely Poured Concrete, with Blue Polyurethane coat and White Polyurethane coat on the inside of rink. Likely logo was on center of floor. Floor Layout: Standard
Building Size: 157,000 SF Built: 1997-1998 Demolished: Still standing. Now a call center.
Type of Building: Free Span Steel Truss Brick-and-Glass Shopping-Mall-like Building.
Roof: Mix. Flat, Arched-Curved window roof, Flat Roof, etc.
Acres: 12.8400 SF.
Operated: November 20, 1998 to November 14, 2014.
Reason for Closure: Bought out by another company.
Wanted: Information regarding exact date open and why closed? Anyone has a printed directory of this entertainment center? Map of floor-plan? More photos and photographs of the rink itself!
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
