Courtesy of Holiday West/Scotts Family. This is one of three known ads found in Lincoln-Journal Star and this one showed grand opening advertisement. Unfortunately, nothing said in the news after that. Sounds like open and shut doors. A huge risky to close that fast because of loss of money.
Holiday West Roller Rink North 1st Street and West Cornhusker, Lincoln, NE
There are not much information regarding to Holiday West Roller Rink but it was owned by the same people as the other Holiday related rinks. Seth and Betty Scott who owned the Holiday Skate World (North) and this is in the west part of Lincoln.
The location is unknown. I looked in Google Map. I see the South side of Cornhusker Highway, it is all open fields and grass. Beautiful area. But North of it, there are commerical and residential areas. So that narrowed down to two of four spots. It is hard to tell because back then everyone says the corner of this and that. Never say street number. Nowadays, you have to say street number. Reason? I can name two. Tax purposes that the zoning department and tax assessment needs to know exactly what corner and what side of the street they are talking about. Second reason is for fire department to know exactly where you are in case of an emergency- fire, health (maybe victim having heart attack or injury on property? And I can say third. Law enforcement needs to know in case of emergency also- crime, injuries, whatever.
Now back to this. Back then in ads for this rink was merely showing it was in corner. But never the number. Anyone know where exactly the rink was? In that presently a body shop building on corner or in that shopping plaza cross the street? Photos also helps but there are NO photos. Unfortunately no one knows!
Even the dates especially when they closed. All I could find it was opened in 1988 but never beyond that. Did they fold in same year? Anyone know about this one? If it was really short lived, no one would remember this at all. 1988 was sort of a uptick trend of roller skating thanks to Inline skates. However, not as much. Perhaps they opened at wrong time and wrong place. But also there were already at least 3 other rinks in operations at the time in the same town. Not even mention in warm weather, outside and skate parks as well. I would like help on this, everyone! Thank you!
