First it was Hinkle's Skateland and later, it became Castle Skateland at 29101 Hufford Road, Perrysburg, Ohio. This rink had Marble, yes you read right, Marble floor! Not Maple, Marble.
Frank Hinkle and his wife, Adele Hinkle operated Hinkle's Skateland. The rink was named after their last name, Hinkle. They operated from 1958 to 1974. I believe they built that rink.
But later, in 1974 Barbara Ann Patton Peters purchased Hinkle's Skateland and renamed it as Castle Skateland. It was Barbara along with her husband and 5 boys went skating at the rink for many years. Her passion skating lead her to purchase the rink.
I have no closing date or why they closed for good. In my opinion, not a fact but an educated opinion, that Barbara Peters passed away in 2009 according to the obituary, so that may have lead to the closure of the rink that year. Facebook group seemly to start in 2010. So, that is the connection there. The Graystone Hall is the current tenant of the facility as well as Knights of Columbus.
The Interior.
Marble floor! That is the second hardest stone there is just behind Granite. That got to hurt when you fall! I have seen Marble cracks in aging shopping malls. So, they must have had it thick marble laydown. I am not sure how thick this one was.
I see it appeared to be two colored wall but I am seeing old photographs that would not be good enough and cannot be shown here because it has people in it and the old 80s photographs that were rather dark.
The current venue is the Graystone Hall and it does show the Marble floor! It is two tone floor. One part is very light Gray, almost White. And the other is Battle Ship Gray. Still there.
The Exterior.
This place was a bit of an odd design. According to the old 2010s photograph perhaps taken from Google that was shown on their group photo and I see the 2019 photograph that was taken on a gloomy wet day. The place has renovated into a event venue for wedding and parties. I am sure the Marble floor is still there.
The exterior were quite Gray in appearance for walls and the renovated version had it all Carmel colors and hues to that aspect. They added windows even to the second floor in the front. The building was designed a bit different than many rinks. The front part had 2nd floor and the rest were ground floor toward the rear. I hardly can see windows in the old grainy photograph from 2010s. There were trees in front kind of blocking the front but it was re-landscaped by cutting trees down. And painted brighter and much better.
Parking lot appeared very large compared to the building.
