Hanger Skate Park 630 South 40th Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. This was a skate park in a real airport hanger! It was perfect setting for this type of park. Image a roller rink? Hmm.. I will let you decide. All photos ourtesy Skate In.
Hanger Skate Park 630 S 40th Street, Muskogee, OK
Hanger Skate Park was a skate park at 501 South 3rd Street in Muskogee, Oklahoma. It was a skating park for not just roller skates, but also for skate boards, BMX, etc. Recently, they shuttered for good.
The name, Hanger Skate Park was literally named after where it was-- in an airport hanger. I looked on Google Map, it was an airport at one time. Two hangers there with a small building and an oil well-like steel tower for weather gauges.
I am not sure where this was really located because I see 2 Segmental Arch buildings and a classic hanger with tons of broken windows. It did not match any buildings I saw on Google Map as I described. Only one I could say was the one with broken window however, from what I saw in pictures, it is not matched. That brings to a question, did they tear it down?
The former airport is now a sports complex with dozens of baseball-softball-little league fields. But also I see what appeared to be at least 3 to 4 football fields (but no lines though), a small water theme park, and a BMX/motocross track as well. You can even see two runways there but now serving as streets with one now served as parking lot.
In my humble opinion that the building was demolished.
The Interior.
A former airport hanger where an airplane would housed in. It was converted to a skate park full of wood floors, ramps, etc. They had Bank/wedge, Ramp Extension, Flat Rail, Kicker/launch, Mini Ramp, Pyramid, Quater, Pipe, Spine, and Vertical Ramp. The floor itself was very spacious that you can even skate on without need to go on ramps so this is why I included this park.
The Exterior.
A former hanger converted to a rink. It had gable roof with steel walls and exposed trusses. The building might have been demolished.
The Stats:
