Holland Sentinel. Yup, that is very true what the words said in the light box above. They will have a new beginning after all. Good times are coming back with this rink! (1 April 2021) Note-- this is NOT an April Fool's Day! Thank you very much!
All above are Google Map. See interesting evolution of design. I like the final 2 designs best. First one was so plain. Very 2000s look with the blue and white fad at the time. The Bluing of America. They did replace the canopy with a large colorful awning. Bottom above is close up by a fan in Google Image.
Courtesy of HOME ministries. I see the evolution of the rink floor. The final floor is Royal Blue coated.
Whoa, is that wooden shoe skates!? No, not from Holland, the country in Europe. This is from Holland, Michigan! Haha. I love it! Funny. Nice for a collection or for display.
Taken by a skater, Google Image. I love this beautiful clean design. no busy carpet, very clear and almost as Minimalist.
By a fan on Google Image search. My.. beautiful art work photograph. Love the light balance, the shadowneess and darkness of people against lights. Lighted up clouds at night because of the city lights shining on it.. That building in background is a store. Would this be nice for a jigsaw puzzle say.. 2000 pieces? Haha.

******TO BE REOPENED AS ROLL XSCAPE COMING THIS SUMMER/FALL 2021******
Before The Rink, it was Grand Roller Rink then it was HOME Roller Rink on 12521 James Street A in Holland Township, Michigan. The Rink ended the run in March 2021 due to its being put up for sale since January 2021 because the owners, Crystal and Tony Nolan who are pastors with their ministry that owns the rink. Financial hardship brought burden on the Pastors Nolans because of the COVID lockdowns and slow reopening which limited. Unfortunately it was sold to a buyer who wants to convert to a garage and warehouse. That is real sad.
This is what the Pastors were trying to do at the first place when they bought Grand Roller Rink to keep it alive. Apparently on last fumes and with COVID lockdowns and this nailed the coffin. Many rinks are experiencing this. (I get 2 to 3 a day that they are closing. Usually none announcing on weekends).
The building is owned by Healing Outreach Ministries for Everyone — which is owned by Nolan. Pastors Tony and Crystal Nolans started the rink as HOME Roller Rink before they reorganized as The Rink.
The rink was just sold and the new owner will covert The Rink into Roll Xscape which will be renovated this Summer 2021 and to be open in late Summer or Fall 2021. Looks like it will become for profit, not a non-profit. The new owner's name is Ben Fogg, the former owner and current executive at Fogg Filler in Holland Township. Fogg Filler is a manufacturer of machinery for factories that fills sodas, water, and milk and other beverages in the bottles. It is a global company based in the United States.
Anyway, That is great news this rink will live on as Roll Xscape! Not all rinks will close after all during this COVID era which is about to end.
The Interior.
It has a beautiful modern professional looking interior. Does not look like a standard late 20th or early 21st Century rink. Very professional because it looks so clean and modern when the pastors and their ministry updated the interior. I do not know what the Grand Roller Rink interior were like but never mind, I love the interior of THIS one.
The ceiling with recessed lights. Feel very professional and neat like you are in some professional building or at the airport. Then there are some black on the wall so the can shine with disco lights when main lights are off. Part of the rink I see it has black drapes and raw wood rail. But I can not make out of what that was. Was that a stage or what?
I love the logo. Beautiful design. I am referring to The Rink's logo It looks like it would spell as The H Rink. H stands for Holland in this case. Maybe. The HOME Roller Rink looked very simple logo. However for Grand Roller Rink, with the blueness pops well on the sign and the awning. The Rink logo truly displayed so well even on I think it is a DJ booth in one of the photo. They also have soft colors for their carpets. White and Soft Baby Blue colors. The DJ booth is so well designed. And the furniture, truly departure from many standard roller rinks with boring fast food style dinnettes. They had chairs that you can move around.
It appeared more like a church or a convention center inside but sadly it will be turned into warehouse and garage. Terrible! Beautiful design goes a waste. I hoped they had those design lasted pretty long time for 10 years.
It was well lit for the place.
The Exterior.
You can see the evolution thanks to the Google Map. Let's start with the building itself. It was a Flat roof Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblocks-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
First with Grand Roller Rink, the sign and logo had Royal Blue hue on background white letterings. The logo was very business like. The canopy was in Royal Blue as well.
But when HOME Ministries purchased it, they named the rink with their ministry name on it and they had painted over a new coat of Cloud White. They painted from Royal Blue to Dark Rust Red Canopy and a large logo on the exterior wall with HOME word on two pairs of skates and a Gable roof on top of the logo. And the words on the wall also said, "Caring, Connection, and Creating Paths to Christ." It has a stair on the slogan and the word Christ in Red box. One of Google Map photo did blur Christ. SHAME ON YOU GOOGLE! I was able to capture next movement on the road and caught it has the word, Christ clearly. You will see above. Google, please go watch the movie, "God is Not Dead." Do I hear an Amen?
They then renovated once again and paint over to make the place more professional looking with Pavement Gray boxes and White stilettoes of people in the middle of squares. They added EFD entrance which literally cuts the rink in size. EFD stands for Elite Fitness Development, a fitness center.
Were they shifting away from ministry appearance and more into bit secular appearance? God knows.
