Gowrie Skating Center 1202 Beek Street, Gowrie, IA
Wheels of GYC 1202 Beek Street, Gowrie, IA (current)
This rink which is now called Wheels of GYC (apparently means Gowrie Youth Center) was under different management. I have no date of start for both this rink and the current rink. Only that the latter was named in 1949 in a contest. The winner was Dick Rittgers.
I may be wrong about the rink altogether because Wheels of GYC is still operational also as Gowrie Skating Center. Are those two the same time?
The Interior.
As Gowrie Skating Center, I have no idea what the appearance was like but the current one showed they have beautiful Maple wood floor, with straight platform. The walls are White and Black rails height with Navy Blue trim at footboard level. Beautiful colors. It is very clean and crisp design interior that are not outrageous with crazy murals. The current rink has its logo on the wall. The current rink has a macot that is a rabbit skating. On the wall it has patriotic Americana flag on the rabbit with actual cottonball for its tail! One more thing about it is that it is raised mascot art work off the wall to give it a "3D" perspective.
The rink itself has no columns in the way however, it does have columns on the edge of the rink itself. The front end has everything including admission, skate rental, snack bar, and eating area.
The Exterior.
It has that small churchy feel building. It does look antique. It has Aluminum sidings on the wall and it has Gable roof.
It has Light Cold Grey color sidings.
