Google Map. Only best photo so far for the former Good Times Roller Skating Center. Now it is Valiant Industries, Inc. building. Of course you noticed big changes like adding garage door, etc.
Courtesy of a fan from Facebook group. Old bag! It clearly was used a lot! Nice cool bag!
Good Times Roller Skating Center 12 Merrill Street, Amesbury, MA
It was sure was good times at Good Times Roller Skating Center in Amesbury, Massachusetts. For me, for sure a bad time to find no old photos of the rink. Haha.
It began in the good old 1970s (date is unknown) but they closed for "good" in 1984. That is sad. Really.
But as I can see the group of skaters back in the late 1970s/early 1980s from that rink on their Facebook page, they were a bunch of having a good time. Even what they wore at the rink! I love what they wore back then and this was the place where they actually wore fun clothes skating at anytime even not skating! Yes, I am talking about some of the girls with those colorful socks, rainbow spenders just like the Late Robin Williams wore in Mork and Mindy TV show.
And what the girls wore back then really stood out. Many photos I do not include on Dead-Rinks because I want to focus on the rink itself, not people in photos. But this rink, Good Times, had more colorful or maybe the most colorful true to-the-core 1970s roller skating outfit than any other rinks I have seen. Had I grew up at the time (from my judgement seeing the photos, I am exactly their age. I am 56 at the time of this writing (wrote this in January 2021). I would have asked those girls to skate with me for sure because of their colorful outfits. Not too far off from Pippi Longstocking would wear.
No offense ladies. You were really wow! Different. Funny thing, in school, kids told me I should date Pippi Longstocking. I wonder why?! Ah, now I know after I saw those photos. They knew I love to skate and I skate often and they knew the type who would wear at rinks. Funny, at the local rinks in Central NY I went during late 1970s and 1980s, none of the girls wore like that. It was more preppy and conservative I have seen. I still can remember what the girls wore at the rink and in my high school. Dark Jeans right to their ankles, folded from bottom, straight jeans with gold threads on their jeans. As for tops, almost no one wore spenders at the rink but only one from my class. I had crush on her but I was being so shy and being so nervous and hardly spoke with girls. She was far from being Pippi at least of what she wore, not her personality.
Anyway, back to this. Good Times started by George and Mary Psyche. It was in the 1970s they opened.
