Glowing Rock 130 Commerce Blvd, Bogart, GA
Glowing Rock was a skating rink in Bogart, Georgia. yes, I am well aware of the name, Bogert. Reminded me of one of greatest B/W movie actors especially in a Classic movie, Casablanca. Anyway, this did not give much history about the rink itself but architecturally... yes. And even the date about when they were sold thanks to Loop Net!
The rink itself was in a very unusual design that it looked more like a storefront. Or a warehouse store... kind of like a dry goods store. Never mind that but I understood why they designed this way. The geographical land was listed downward toward the road so the front appeared higher than the rest of the land toward the back which was evidently upward toward the back. YOu will see the photos.
The other thing that looked more like a warehouse store was the posts for the overhang Gable canopy. It is a section that extended the Gable part. This looked more like a place for tractor trailer to park and unload or load stuff. Perhaps that was the original design for. But then it was a rink.
This makes it very unique design. And really stood out compared to other rinks in more recent times. On Yelp it said it is closed but no dates of closure. I have nothing found for this rink. Or the founding or opening of this rink.
They posted for sale on July 30, 2002 and may have sold or leased on April 24, 2005. It became a electronic supply company then they went and now its an antique shop. Now with that, the loading will be much easier for those with pick up trucks right on to with a ramp.
The rink went out of business and the building was on leasing terms with tenants. However, the building was up for sale on September 23, 2016. Likely it was sold because of the antique store is there.
The Interior.
N/A
The Exterior.
It is a very unique building. It does look like a Dry-Goods warehouse store or a warehouse with dry docks there. The design had to happen because of the flat paved parking lt and the road itself. But also the gravel around it was listed upward toward the back making the rear ground higher than the front. Almost as if the building was going to go in ground toward the back.
There was a ramp on the side to walk up rather than stairs and you walk up to go in the front doors. They changed colors a few times.
