Galaxy Skateway at 7500 Southgate Boulevard, North Lauderdale, Florida was a rink operating till they recently closed. They were in operations since 1984 according to Hubbiz however, Manta said later in 1993. Which was for real? The owners/operators and managers were Joyce Ritter and her husband, James Ritter II who was co-owner and manager Raymond Ritter managed as well.
DISCLAIMER -- This rink had met with numerous of controversial issues with customers so Dead-Rinks is merely giving facts from customers and the majority of the posts seemly gave similar results of situations occurred at the rink. It is also opinion of Dead-Rinks of the outcome results or giving facts to understand. Dead-Rinks is not responsible for any errors due to the fact people gave their testimony of what occurred at the rink in past few years up to the closure of the rink.
This rink I see in numerous of customer rating social media such as Yelp, Google, and Trip Advisor gave this rink quite low rating because of too many fractions that were re-counted for because of repeating solutions the owners could have. The customers said the music they played were quite sacrilege with adult language, adult theme including violence, anger, and sexuality. Improper music for pretty wrong crowd demographics according to those complaints they wrote on the sites. Also the lack of friendly personalities on the staff and owners/managers including anger toward customers for very simple misunderstanding. For instance, a man who wore a hat came up to pay for admission and the person at the admission told him not to wear hat inside. So, the customer took off his hat and walked in with the hat IN HIS HAND, NOT on his head and temper flared from the co-owner and the staff yelling at the man NOT to wear hat and yes, the police was called (apparently the wife co-owner called the police) and it was the man-with-the-hat's birthday with his family and some of them were from out of town including himself. When the man walked out, of course the police was outside and the male owner walked out yelling at the police officer to demand the officer to arrest the man for TRESSPASSING.
The police did not arrest the man because the police did the right thing. I took criminal justice and I know how the procedures work. When a person already on the property and already paid for and then the owner decided to kick out that person, the police knows it is not trespassing. Because that is the wrong charges. You cannot call the police to arrest someone for trespassing at your own liking. You cant because the law says so and the judge will dismiss the case and it is quite expensive to process in the court of law. You cannot do that. That is only when the person leaves AND COMES BACK ON THE SAME PROPERTY, then it is possible to receive no trespassing charges. None of that. Second of reason is that according to the case with a roller rink owner took up all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States and the court decided he has rights to refuse any services to his customers. That law and the sign everywhere are still intact since mid-1960s. This is why the police did nothing. But cannot arrest due to that law.
The police did not arrest him. And second of all, the police noticed the anger from the owner. Clearly can see the difference. So, the police did the right thing.
That man and his family never went back to that rink again.
A skater did get injured with her wrist and the staff and owner came up with just a little hesitation to help and only gave a little bit of ice to help her feel better. Little ice? Should be a bunch of ice! And the staff snickered at the injury? Ohh, if I heard that and I owned this rink, that person is fired immediately. This is why I like to see rinks to must hire REAL and EXPERIENCED Lifeguards to be staff and floor guards because they are already qualified with certification of first aid and CPR and more. They also should hire EMTs for 2nd jobs there.
Many customers refused to return. Maybe this is why the rink declined and was up for sale.
I know another reason why all this happened. They played really bad and cursing music that are sinful. I know I may be sound preachy here but I am giving the root to the problems here. Music DOES affect everyone. Have you noticed? Christians do understand what I mean. If you do not know, please do ask Christians what I mean here.
The walking score ended up as car dependent at 42 percent. The public transportation was no better with 26 percent but it was better than many rinks with this score though.
It was sold on March 29, 2021 for 2.175 Million USD (2,175,000 USD) according to Realty Trac. I believe that was way too much money based on the condition of the rink business itself. Was the sale cost for both the property/building and the rink business? I found nothing so far.
The Interior.
It is painted White or Dark Blue (many pictures showed different colors) on the rink floor. It was a step down floor. I prefer flat floor so you can roll onto or off the floor. Not steps.
The Exterior.
It was a 25,296 Square feet Gabled roofed, Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building. The property is a 2.2949 Acres with a very good traffic road up front. It also even has a simple side street by the rink. Parking was available up front but entrance was on the side facing that side street.
It had stripes of Polaris Midnight Blue and Snow White colors. It has that nice logo with the starburst that is not unlike Polaris Industries' star, Polaris as their logo. The look really reminded of the popular snowmobile brand.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: N/A. Floor Layout: N/A.
