There were a series of rinks at the same location at 321 Valley Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. Presently no rink but two stores which splits the building. That is quite a bit of management changes as well as ownership changes! In total was SEVEN rinks and the final rink was Old Homestead Skate Rink. SEVEN! Often rinks out there as you can see on Dead-Rinks there are normally up to three, maybe four rink name changes per location. I never seen this many! Seven named rinks at one location! This is a record!
Since I could not get all information on EACH but according to Google and DDG (Duck Duck Go) and even Edge, I could not find any more information but captured through one or the other this or that.
So far the first rink was Holliday Skate Rink. Yes, that is correct spelling according to Loop Net that showed this certain name. That rink under that name operated during the late 1960s. Something must have happened by 1970 or 1971 and according to Realty Trac, it said the building was built in 1971! Something is not right. Must be one or the other did a typo but if that is not the case, then it has to do with a fire? Or it was truly an old building that was renovated heavily in 1971 and reopened again as a rink with a new name. Eventually will need to find out more. But moving on with this profile. Anyone know what happened to the Holliday Skate Rink and the built up in 1971?
According to Bizapedia, Valley Skate Center was registered by Dennis Hallmark on May 28. 1991 then the name associated with Valley continued when Phillip Carter registered his Birmingham Valley Skate Center on October 20, 1997 then the next owner, Antonio Wright registered as TJ's Valley Center on July 3, 1997. According to Loop Net skating came to an end likely around September 22, 2009.
So, we have Holliday came first in late 1960s (year--unknown), then in 1971, unknown till Valley Skate Center in 1991 then two more Valley related rink names. Then I do not know what happened after that. According Loop Net, apparently Old Homestead Skate Rink perhaps was the last one and closed likely in late 2009. It was posted for sale which was on horizon for closure and sold by November 2009 which nailed the end of its run as a rink. Currently are two stores. An auto part store and the other power tools store. Both goes hand in hand. Get it? Anyway. That is all I have.
Originally names were from my lists from other skating rinks list.
