Fun Zone After School Zone and later, Auburn Fun Zone were at 3806 Pepperell Pkwy, Opelika, AL. It had very colorful facility.
I do not know when they first opened but they closed sometimes in 2005 before the auction that July 2005. The building was built in 1968. Was it also a rink opened that year? Or was it Later? I need more information but unfortunately no.
They had a bankruptcy auction on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 and the building was sold. Now it is a moving and storage facility/Uhaul dealer.
There are no other information. Only Google Map was helpful and Loop Net.
The Interior.
N/A. Anyone know what the rink was like? There are no photos and no other information. It had 49,426 Square Feet facility making one of the largest roller rinks. Well, was. It did not have any large rink. Just 13,112 Square Feet. That is an average toward small size rink. There are rinks bigger. Apparently they had many activities.
There was a Pizza Kitchen with dining area that houses 19 booths and 4 themed private party rooms according to Loop Net. Ah, I could not see any photos!? Drats! I wish there were!
The Exterior.
This facility was on a 5.02 Acres of land where the 49,426 Square Foot Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse- like Building. What interesting about this building it had a huge 75 by 50 Purple open canopy. The photo would explains that very clear. This was one of the largest for a rink to have a front door canopy. Rather unusual but great for skaters under hot sun or rain while waiting for doors to open.
It had that checkered Black-White walls from ground to canopy and above were all White. From what I see. It appeared to be Cinder-block build. The appearance looked very MacKenzie-Childs Pottery style. The company should have bought the former rink and kept it as a newly added factory and outlet store for the South. Just being silly with thoughts.
The building even had a 12 X 12 garage door. That is rarely a rink needs that but perhaps to open up for air during hot season or something like that? Or it was there before the rink opened? Good questions!
