Both Google Maps. Former location of the Forestville Skating Center. Now a tire store. I can see a very tight parking spot for skaters to park for sure.
Forestville Skating Center 7700 Penn-Belt Drive, Forestville, MD
This rink ran in the 20th Century and I do not know the dates of open and closing because it is very little information. If the rink opened, it would have been 1975 because of the look of the building's style and age so likely they opened in 1975.
Facebook Fan page was not a very organized because they posted the wrong rink photos. Both interior and exterior. Those two were shown as Alexandria Arena, an American On Wheels rink in Alexandria, Virginia. Just a very few photos of people at this rink.
Loop Net was explaining about the property as it was for sale in 2004. Did the rink close that year? Or someone else did because Forestville Skating Center was not listed in the lists I used from 1990s (FRRP, George's, A2, Skating Fitness, Skating Centers, USA, and a couple of others I used). So, did the Forestville rink close in 1980s?
The Interior.
It explained it has 20,000 SF of space with a rink we do not know what size however, it had Michigan Maple lay down on the rink. Michigan Maple are very high quality wood. The rest I do not know what the place was like.
The Exterior.
It clearly showed exposed Free-Span Steel Truss posts long with Cinderblocks built. Currently as a tire-replacement store. I am sure the main door was in the middle of entire complex. Closing date is unknown.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Michigan Maple. Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: 20,000 SF. Built: 1975. Demolished: Renovated into a tire store.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblock-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: 1.3200 Acres.
Operated: 1975 to 1980s?
Reason for Closure: N/A.
Wanted: Information regarding actual date of open, closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos.
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
