Forest Park Roller Rink Forest Park Amusement Park, Genoa, OH
Forest Park Roller Rink was part of Forest Park Amusement Park, Genoa, OH. The skating rink was opened as part of Forest Park Amusement Park that was opened in c. 1920s.
Forest Park was a popular amusement park that was located on Route 102-Hickory Corners which is now Route 51. Forest Park was opened in the early 1920s by Carl Uthoff.
The park had 40 acres. they included the skating rink, dance hall, roller coasters, 25 resort cottages, restaurants, movie theaters, circus acts, and carnival games.
It closed in 1949 as newer faster cars, highways, and new destinations further way drew the crowd away from the park, not the War in 1949! World War II ended in 1945 compared to what Ohio Memory website says which is an error. Later, the park was considered a part of an unsuccessful attempt at a gambling venue. The dance hall was the site of local auctions until 1967, when it burned down.
The park was operated and owned by C.J. Urthoff.
Cross the road, there are a few abandoned cabins. On the site, a couple of foundation still there and a few poles as well.
The rink was demolished at some point in 1949 or maybe later.
Now it is a new growth forest there with many trails which gave evident that it was where all people walked around. The top view photograph would show it. I hope it is the correct location. The trails gave me an opportunity to know this might be the possible location and besides that, the people who commented on Vintage Aerial where the amusement park and rink was located about half mile from the old White House Restaurant which was on same road. The restaurant known for its breakfast was demolished sometime ago. Google Maps only show meter, not feet. And this translate to help understand. 1 mile is equal to 1608 meter. Half mile is 804 meter. I measured and got my estimate correct where the location of former park and rink was.
Some people said the place burned down. Actually it was the dance hall that was burned down in 1967.
The Interior.
From the look on the outside, the inside is all wood. The floor then likely is Maple Hardwood floor. Perhaps Straight layout. All wood interior, trusses, posts, etc.
The Exterior.
All wood structured, Wood-Trusses Wood-Walled Arena-like building.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Non-painted Maple. Floor Layout: Likely Straight.
Building Size: N/A. Built/Renovations: N/A. Demolished: 1949 to early 1950s.
Type of Building: Posts/columns Wood-Trusses, Wood - Walled Arena - like Building.
Roof: Sort of Bonnet.
Acres: 30 (includes the amusement park).
Operated: (Overall)-- Early 1920s to 1949.
Reason for Closure: Due to changing lifestyles after the World War II, highways, new further destinations.
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, size of rink, . Also photos/articles. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
