Floss's Roller Rink, 6957 Dead Creek Road, Memphis, NY
This rink as I recalled ran twice. They had first one with dates unknown and the second one was a rebooted briefly. I recalled I went once but it was quite unusual location and out of the way. It was on a farm! It is just outside of Baldwinsville, NY and it was competing against the rebooted Empire Skates West. Both of those rinks were rebooted. Anyway, the rink was at a farm that you arrive and see where the rink is because the sign says so and you can see the farm buildings surrounding in the area and the farm house.
As you go in, you pay admission at the snack bar, they had no admission booth. Then get your skate rental at same location and as for bathroom that I had to ask. It was located in the back side of the rink! You literally had to get on the rink and skate your way over there and step off the rink into the bathroom, no snack bar area there. It was like bad design. My friend concur that it was weird design because he needed to go to bathroom as well.
When it was first open, my friend and I went skating and hardly anyone was there. 6 people there skating. Two kids, two adults. My friend and I were the other 2 adults.
I believe it was a family-run because the girl at the snack bar was a 13 years old farm girl who told me about herself and her family. She told me her age as I ordered my drink. And I asked about the rink a little bit. I can tell she was a farm girl. This was in the year 1990. She said it was just opened and family trying to make extra money as they farmed.
The family ran the rink as second income to support their farm which was an ideal for them because farming is always difficult.
The reboot did not last. According to Google Map, I found the building and it looks pretty run down and they have items outside of the building. Rusted sheet metal roof. It sports that red paint to match to the house. I recalled the house and the building very well. It was a little hard to find. They may have closed in early 1990s. I never went back to skate again after how far out to drive from home. And Empire was better rink at the time for me anyhow. No offense!
Any photographs would be great. Dates of operations would also be appreciate it.
