All courtesy of Family Skate & Arcade. Wow, real small rink! A private homeowner who loves to skate can own this! Well, I am not sure if it is up for sale now because they closed some time ago. Maybe around 2015... so.. If you call, it will be disconnected. Please do NOT call that number. We are not responsible for this as this photo is to be left as it is naturally.
Family Skate & Arcade 64 KY Route 306 Wheelwright, KY
This rink in a town that you would miss in a blink-of-eyes in a hidden gem town of Wheelwright, Kentucky. It was on 64 KY-Route 306.
It was Family Skate & Arcade. It was literally right off the road by feet. It was small though. Real small rink.
It sure does feel like you are skating in a very long living room. Beautiful floor though. Must be well care of.
I do not have much but that is all I found while researching for another rink in another town in the same skate of similar name. Address differ than this one.
The Interior.
Wow, it is a very small narrow roller rink they had. It has that narrow Maple floor with clear coated Polyurethane coat on and...Chalkboard Black walls. It sure does make the whole place feel small. White would be best. But anyway, The rink occupied 2/3rd of width as the other third is eating and games area as well as snack bar. The counter looked very much like it came from a different kind of store. I cannot place where I have seen those before. Maybe movie theaters because of the low counter which would normally be where popcorn machine would be placed. But Nope, they got some bucket and something there that they should have not put there.
They may also have a store selling some other items as I saw that on Facebook but I did not include those.. They were selling some very 1970s-80s chandler with glass covering with art work on it. Very dated merchandise.
They did not have soda machines but a soda bottles. I always prefer that than the syrup with carbonated water mix. Yuck. Although I do not drink soda. But from your perspective, I can understand that.
I do not think they even had a DJ booth as I do not see in the photos. I think they had a music jukebox. Made me cry, not a Seeburg! The one they had clearly was a modern 80s feel to the classic popular jukeboxes the Big Four used to make. Very rare a rink would have them. So far since I started Dead-Rinks, this is third rink with a jukebox. Rinks normally do not have jukeboxes as many thought. It was drive-in restaurants that had those. One of many misconceptions many thought.. maybe many had a Mandela Effect.
The Exterior.
The exterior was quite simple. It appeared to be two stories. I think it was. But I do not see any windows at all on this building. Was there a second floor? Reason I said because of the ceiling is pretty low in the photos shown above. There might have been 2nd floor.
The warehouse like building has aluminum siding in Sand color tan and does look good color for this building. Awfully close to the road though. They do because this town is so tiny. A hamlet in the thick of Appalachian Mountains of the East Coast.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. (one of smallest! Very narrow!) Floor: Clear coated Polyurethane coated Maple.
Floor Layout: Straight
Building Size: N/A. Built: N/A. Demolished: Still standing.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Aluminum sidling-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: N/A.
Operated: (Overall)-- N/A.
Reason for Closure: N/A.
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
