Euclid Beach Park Roller Rink Euclid Beach Park, Cleveland, OH
Euclid Beach Park Roller Rink in Cleveland, Ohio was a roller rink at the Euclid Beach Park. This rather unique rink was build in 1904 and expanded in 1909.
The park was located on the southern shore of Lake Erie at E. 156th St. and Nottingham Rd in Euclid Beach in Cleveland area.
The park began before the Humphrey Family, not them started it, they bought it in 1901. See Time Line. The park was incorporated on 23 Oct. 1894 by a group of Cleveland investors under the management by William. R. Ryan, Sr.. The park was conceived based on New York City's Coney Island. Lee Holtzman became the new director of Euclid Beach Park in 1897, but the enterprise flopped so by 1901, it was offered for sale.. While that occurred, the Humphrey Family began with the popcorn stand at the park in 1896 Which began built up and they took over on 27 May 1901 which technically began the park.
The park did experienced some bad days including the Riot of 1946. This riot was in the 1940s, not you thought it may be in 1950s or 1960s. 1946! It was on 23 of August 1946 because the park itself and perhaps the rink included were limiting people to skate and ride or have fun on certain days due to their appearance. Rinks faced this mostly in 1960s or even 1950s.
After the riot occurred in August and September 1946, the court ordered the park to remodify its policies and this, the Humphries had to privatized the dance hall, the roller rink, and shut down the swimming pool. The rink was under new management in 1948 till its closure.
The roller rink opened in 1904. They expanded in 1909. Likely the rink was open for season along with the park opening in 1904 and again in 1909 when they expanded to make the rink larger due to popularity.

The Interior.
Non-painted Clear coated Maple floor, Fan style layout with interesting center that had posts and rails made of wood. Very simple rail. Anyone can fall through that hand rail. Anyway, on each end, there were six sides because of the wood normally are straight, this meant the floor also parallel to the rail as you cna see in the photo. A standard layout today in the 21st Century Fan layout is just merely 3 turns of wood. But this was 6 turns with 2 straights. The other end the same way-- 6. Bringing the total of 14 turns of the wood on the floor! Today's rink has 8 lines or turns. The Log Cabin on the other hand is just 4 straights or sides.
Also the center was where the band played. Maybe the electric organ played as well. Hard to see in that postcard/photograph.
The Exterior.
Hard to tell because that is the only photograph I ever seen was the interior. Exterior.. I had to make a guess from that photo of the interior. The roof apparently did have turns. Kind of like what a gazebo would have on turns.. like a octogen or whatever -gon was-- only with 5 sides or more. Well, this building had some idea perhaps borrowed or the other way around with the Coliseum Roller Rink which happened to be in Mansfield, Ohio.
