Ellport Roller Rink 215 Connoquenessing Blvd., Ellport, PA. There was a big banner to advertise to let skaters know they need to go skating to raise money for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. Back then, with RSROA, they were the biggest donors of any donors to the telethon and Jerry Lewis is known to love to skate. Check him out in Northridge Skateland profile. Ellport Roller Rink 215 Connoquenessing Blvd, Ellport, PA
Ellport Roller Rink 215 Connoquenessing Boulevard., Ellwood City, Pennsylvania was housed in this old Cinderblocks building that appeared to be an old factory or arena. Your pick. The rink was built in or before 1946 when the rink was first opened by Tom and Shirley Stover, followed by Harold "Sonny" Rough and his wife, Sally, bought the roller rink in 1971, Then Timothy Rough who was Sonny's son took over the rink when Sonny died in 1990. and operated till the rink closed for good in 2009. It sat abandoned till 2019 when a new owner bought it and converted it to storage facility.
Tim was a competitive skater who won more than 50 awards. When he turned professional, he became a coach. He taught hundreds of people of all ages how to skate and was known as a patient coach who always had a smile on his face.
The rink had a jukebox with the top-10 hits being played on radio. Each week, a man would come and put the 45s that were the newest top-10 hits in the jukebox. although they had Hammond Organ at the time before they discontinued using the organ and used DJ music and Rock music.
I had hard time finding the rink but thanks to this article in Ellwood City ledger about a new owner bought the former rink and renovated into storage facility that occurred in 2019. The building sat empty for 10 years. In fact, the roller rink floor STILL sits on the floor!
The Interior.
The rink being opened in 1946, the entire floor which they evidently continued till their closure in 2009 that it was Maple Hardwood floor all the way. Straight, no Fans, no Log. All Straight. They had since the 1940s the wood panel look that was common in 1940s to 1970s.
Later, they had renovations to add the flatstones look especially around the Concession stand.
They had church style pews for seating and later, more modern benches.
Then they renovated again to remove that panel and expose Cinderblocks. At first it was entirely Orange and Gray then they had in late 1970s, thick stripes of either Black or Dark Chocolate (70s photos colors are not the same as actual colors), and they had mostly Halloween Orange, and White as well. The colors there I felt it was very Halloween feel to it. Although it really symbolize the era with bold stripes and they continued with that till 2009 when they closed. (although the obituary said til 2011).
They did changed the appearance of the rink a bit with Blue paint in center of the rink with a Stadium/Capsule look.
I am surprised there were no full rink photos on Facebook.
The Exterior.
Before I go on with the exterior, the proper location today is 213 Parkview Ave. They changed the name of the street. So this is correct now.
The building originally had a garage and had a awning canopy when first bought. Then it was renovated to add the name and new paint. Very colorful name on the building. Then they added more modern and neater looking with the marquee style canopy but not really a marquee.
The final appearance was Snow-White with Fire Red trims.
After Timothy Rough died, some one spray painted with a memorial style graffiti on the exterior wall. The place was abandoned till 2016, a year after Timothy's death.
The current look was repainted and still have that same whiteness. But the trim is painted Black making this place monochromic.

Thank you for understanding.
Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
