Elks' Opera House Roller Rink 400 Lomas Boulevard NW, Albuquerque, NM
Elks' Opera House Roller Rink was once a rink that was in Elks' Club Opera House which was on 400 Lomas Blvd NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico. This rink began in 1912 in the Elks' Club Opera House that was built around 1900s. No specific date is known. Not much information about the building. Anyone has information, please let me know!
Elks' Club in that town, Albuquerque wanted a place for entertainment. They had it built in the first decade of 20th Century. The 1900s. But it was not until 04 September 1912 that they had roller skating rink there managed by New Mexican Amusement Company. It was managed by Karl Bowdick.
In Google Map, it was no where to be found. Likely torn down in 1960s according to someone on Facebook who got in touch with me. It was torn down to make way for a court house which is standing today.
Closure is unknown.
The Interior.
Likely they used wood floor but unknown. Likely it was on ground floor because the Elks normally have their activities and offices on top two floors because I looked at some other Elks' lodges and opera houses and theaters in South West US and this is typical format in early century.
If they had roller skating rink on ground floor/first floor, likely on one end, the back end was a stage for opera and plays and folding chairs or chairs were lay in auditorium format.
The Exterior.
It appeared to be a beautiful Red Brick building.
