Courtesy of Google Map. You can see it has been demolished. See the ground? You can spot where the rink was easily.
Photo courtesy of Marie Noplos/Daily Journal. Demolishing in the middle of winter! This view is in the back of the former rink. It was apparently became a garage for a repair shop or something because of the garage door in front and back. I can tell because of both Google Map photo and Marie's photo showing the rear because of the newer warehouse-like building behind in this photo.
Edgetown Arena Roller Rink, 2052 College Way, Fergus Falls, MN
Silver Skate Roller Rink, 2052 College Way, Fergus Falls, MN
This rink was in Fergus Falls before it met with being demolished in 2015. It was opened in 1959 and closed in 1990s which gave it very vague of date of when it closed. The reporter could have researched more deeply when.
And this other article seem to be cut off at this site which gave a blank and unreadable. Terrible site. See Fergus Falls Journal.
It had polished concrete floor to skate and the building was a mixed roof styled warehouse like building. It had curved roof with extended slant roof. The walls were steel sheet metal. In the Google Map capture I have was taken in 2013 showed how deserted the rink was. The building was still standing but no sign. Clearly it was closed sometimes before 2013. I have no date of closing whatsoever but it was February 2015 they demolished the rink. If I moved along the road on Google Map, you will see it is demolished and grass are growing on the parking lot and where the rink was. Pavement and concrete does not last if you do not use. It is reverted to nature that quick. Four years it is already grassland itself. I read in a book about 20 years ago or so that it does give the broken window effect if it is abandoned and it deteriorated faster that way than when you are using it. It is funny how nature is.
It had a garage door! Apparently it may have been sold in 1990s to become a garage that the new business owner converted had gone out of business or relocated. In the 2013 Google Map, it failed to state any signage for sale. None of that. Totally abandoned.
That is what happened to that rink. But before it was closed, it was operating somewhat long.
The article said something it would become a plaza but it appeared it has not yet at all.
To the person named Sue who wrote in the 2017 article about the rink. Sue, I found exactly where it was. Please look at Google Map photo above and is that the right place? And yes, it is EAST of the Subway restaurant! It sure did change a lot! The rink building is gone and the parking lot and the rink has been swallowed up by grass.
