Dreamland Skating Rink 3688 Ohio Pike, Bethel, OH
Dreamland Skating Rink was once operational at 3688 Ohio Pike, Bethel, Ohio. Google Map kept sending me to the wrong location that it was not possible. It pointed to an off street that is not Ohio Pike, a main road through Bethel. I looked and looked for a good hour till I found in Billboard an article talking about this rink that 50 skaters had to have oxygen because of fume coming from their newly installed HVAC that may have not been properly installed (by that time in Billboard, they did not have a follow up on the investigation with the fume which happened in December 1956. (Billboard, December 8, 1956 issue).
The article did say they just had their 35,000 USD building just built the year before this incident and they opened in 1955. The building still stands today but the rink closed some time ago. I found nothing about the rink itself. The older the rink it is, the harder to get information.
In 2010s, there was a flea market housed in the former Dreamland Roller Rink because of the huge Block Fonts FLEA MARKET was shown on the walls-- Facing the road and side of the road.
The building has kept changing its colors! Truly a Chameleon building after all! Google Map has its history-- in 2009, it was Tan, then in 2014, Light Lime Green with Flea Market name on it, then the Costa Rican style White and Blue base which remains today.

The rink were owned by Howard and Vernon Brose (they may be brothers).
Anyone know more about this rink, please email me. Thank you.
The Interior.
Likely it had Maple floor. Non-painted. It was built with a HVAC system that I mentioned about the fumes.
The Exterior.
It has Gable roof on the main part and the main door side--smaller Gable with a window. It is a Cinderblock build with Free-Span Steel Trusses building that looked too much like a warehouse.

I am sure when you see the photos, there are two chimmeys. Clearly one was for the fume incident that they had to install afterwards. Most homes and buildings today need to have vents, chutes, and chimneys to circulate air from inside to out. And some areas, need to have Radon chutes from basement or from in ground below basement. I believe for this building, the new furnace was installed in the basement considering this rink was in a snow belt state.
