Don Bergs Roller Rink 18 Country Route 29, Lewiston, MN
Don Bergs Roller Rink was in Lewiston, MN. I do not know the street. It was in one of the rare D-roof style building and the rink was upstairs with the bar on first floor.
I could not find information on the internet but got this information from a former band member who played there.
The original owner is gone, made it into apartments when I-90 was being built in the 1970’s for the highway workers. The highway was just North a few miles away according to Google Map. The rink was on second floor above the bar. But the bands played at the rink.
The two story building had a D-Roof design. Not quite a Quonset Hut. Quonset Hut is ground to ground curved. But this was straight walls on both side with curved roof. The stairwell is still there along with the apartments upstairs.
Google Map showed it was Restaurant. Maybe pointing out to the ground floor where the Rec Bar and Grille is. It did say for sale in 2012 as it was date stamped by Google Map but it is for sale presently according to the band member.
Downstairs is a bar & grill! And its for sale, so who knows how long it can survive! It smelled really great when I was there visiting them. They told there were many bands that played up there during that time.
Looks like this rink had music focused on bands, not organ back then. Rarely I see rinks had bands played often. Usually it would feature concerts only or for night club style dancing.
The Interior.
N/A.
The Exterior.
It is a D-roof style Arch-Curved building that is a two story building. It is designed to house two different functions. Rink upstairs, bar downstairs on ground floor. It featured a fake Flat roof look but it is really D-Roof as you can see in the photo. It is all wood. White on second floor as it is Off Light Brown. Looked more like Carmel color.
It has a lot of windows. The second floor may had windows as it was a rink but it was converted to apartments for the I-90 workers while they were working on the interstate highway coast to coast. They stayed there for that area in Minnesota.
