Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. This was taken in 2009. Very basic look. The photo was enhanced due to poor quality on Google Maps in 2009 as it has shown everywhere at the time. They had RED sign but no name on the building. Very plain. Courtesy of Google Maps.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. This is a good photo from Loop Net. However, it did not date when this occurred. The wall tells me differently as well as the ice cream stand? This predates all photos below. Might have been taken in 1999 or 2000 because another site did say it was last sold before the rink closed for good was February 2000. No Solar Panels seen. I cannot see the signage on the wall in the photo. What did those signs say? Courtesy of Loop Net.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Taken in 2013. Before the ice cream stand was built and very clean modern layout of the grounds and yes, the sign was in Red color but it did not go with any colors on the building. Later you will see the changes. newly paved, new sign on the wall. And new landscape. Courtesy of Google Maps.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Eventually, it became this view. More colorful on the building including Grass Green and Royal Blue. Yes, the sign changed as well. No red but blended signage to match the grass! New Ice cream stand opens. This was 2017. This view and the addition made the place more lively. Courtesy of Google Maps.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Yummy.. Great place for a date! I will have some coconut ice cream and you will have what? Oh, Vanilla? I am sure some of you said something like that at this ice cream stand. This was taken after DSC renovation on the outside once again. Look at the main building for the name and stripes. This was second generation appearance in later 2010s look. Courtesy of 42 Freeway (cropped for fitting).
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. As you can see the sign, this was BEFORE the renovation into green and blue.. This places in around 2015. Courtesy of Four Square.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Now you see it is ghosting. Gone. Already closed. The sign was already removed as the sign on the wall was still there. Ice cream shop closed up as well. I am sure that person stopped by wanting to skate found out its not. This was taken in November 2021, many months after the rink closed that January 2021. They could have waited a year or so to get more customers come in. Courtesy of Google Maps.

Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Whoa! Groovy! A good photograph in color during 1970s when it was Concrete floor. NOW, that is Avocado Green with Harvest Gold and Burnet Orange but they had Natural Wood color wod panels on the walls. Best example to represent 1970s colors! Taken in 1970s. Courtesy of FB Group., I skated at Skaters Choice, Deptford, and/or Evesham.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Huge changes. They added Roller Hockey look with Plexiglass and more. This was taken in 2010 which was also properly represented 2000s and 2010s with Blues, and Green, and Whites. Remember those? This rink was best example to show decades of colors. Courtesy of Amusement Parks.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. BOOM BOOM BOOM! I know! I looked at the Google Maps. The forest are surrounded but NOT between the rear of the rink and the houses behind it. I recalled My grandparents and their neighbors faced the same problem with Wegmans, a popular grocery store chain in the East Coast had built directly behind my grandparents. It was my grandfather's idea that they should built a dirt wall hill similar to a dike you find in Holland. It was noise barrier wall. The wall was built however, Wegmans decided to take over then closed up Cooks Department Store (This is in Fayetteville right by I-690.) Anyway.. And their expansion, the Chase-Pitkin, a hardware store. Now, Hobby Lobby. (Service Merchandise went out of business and building was demolished in that plaza) The former Wegmans spot was torn down and rebuilt smaller. The hill fence is still there. Well, this could have been solution for this rink but also insulation was necessary. Steel walled are usually acoustic when there is no insulations. Courtesy of Courier Post - 24 January 1973.
Deptford Roller Rink / Deptford Skating Center / Deptford Skating & Fun Center 510 Deptford Ave, Westville, NJ. Ah, guess who became the mayor! The rink owner. I believe he ran because of the noise complaint so he wanted to maybe weaken that noise law? Just like Clint Eastwood did not like what the mayor of Carmel, CA was doing to Clint Eastwood's diner with some laws.. So, Client ran and won and appealed that law. Sounds like that here with the noise situation. Courtesy of Skate Magazine Winter 1974 issue.

What will future champions going to do and where to go to? The less sports venues, the weaker we are at the Olympics and World Games and X Games as well. We need to produce champions! Deptford Roller Rink began in January 1973 at 510 Deptford Avenue, Westville, New Jersey and later, it became Deptford Skating Center in 1984 then in 1991, Deptford Skating & Fun Center. Each name slightly changes due to different ownership. It made perfect sense each one wanted to remain the traditional name. By law when you want to purchase a business, you have to change the name slightly. Or start an incorporation or an LLC and you can purchase the asset of that name. Depends on the state and federal laws. Check it out for yourself.
January 1973, Robert Campbell began Deptford Roller Rink but sold it to Charles Wahlig who changed the name to Deptford Skating Center and not long after when it came to 1991, he sold it to Charles M. Kirchner who ran from 1991 to January 2021.
Wh2021)
What interesting was that the rink floor began with wooden. Maybe Maple however, it was converted to a RollerCourt or Sports Court Tiles.
Sadly Charles Kirchner closed the rink in January 2021 due to the financial losses due to the lockdown. This being in New Jersey, a Blue State that forces businesses closed longer than those in the Southern US which are Red States and no masks required in the south. Not mean to bring or being political but it shows from my watching this for past 4 years now. (Now it is July 2023). He could have asked for financial assistance during the lockdown to keep business afloat or if he wanted out, he could have sold it to another rink operator. United Skates of America would because this is being in New Jersey. Why not?
We will never know.
The Interior.
Deptford Roller Rink: The original floor was wooden and maybe it was Maple. Maybe Oak. It had very popular colors and décor at the time: Avocado Green, Harvest Gold, and Burnet Orange with Wood Panels on the wall. All open with out any feel or references to Roller Hockey. No Disco lights are discovered. All plan on the ceiling with Tube Box Lights. Very 1970s trendy look.
Deptford Skating Center: Likely they had updated look as new management took over in 1984. Unknown. Roller Hockey introduced? If so, Roller Court was added.
Deptford Skating & Fun Center: The Roller Court continued on the rink floor that was tiled in Cement Sky Blue color. It felt a separation from the rink and off the rink floor for many. Photos showed that. No interactions. It was heavily renovated.
The Exterior.
Deptford Roller Rink: It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel - Walled Warehouse - like Building. Original color(s) were not known.
Deptford Skating Center: It is the same building but they painted White with 3 stripes of colors: Royal Blue, Red, and Royal Blue again. Three horizonal stripes. It had the rink name on it where the ice cream stand was built and placed.
Deptford Skating & Fun Center: Exterior renovated with DSC design that had Grass Green and Royal Blue colors. Stripes are thicker on the building. But they changed to the logo rather than spell out the name in front. They had to change when they added the ice cream stand.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
