This was taken by USGS in 1997! Wow, where were all those buildings and houses? This rink was one of first in that immediate area in the photograph. Now its all full with homes and businesses. No room left to built. The 1996 aerial photo showed all desert! Nothing there! Nada! Clearly that rink wsa built in 1997.
Three photos courtesy of Google Map.
Courtesy of Yelp user. Beautiful job taking this one! Wow, decorations in the middle of the rink! This is ice rink. Notice the Skate Mate? Yes, you see it correctly because that is their version of Skate Mate for ice rink. Roller rink has PVC pipe that looked like a homemade. Can you roller rink skate mate makers change to something better?
Crystal Palace Skating Center 9295 W Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV
This was one of a few Crystal Palace Skating Center that was in Las Vegas. On 9295 W Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, Nevada. Not to be confused with Henderson location, the Boulder Highway, and the Rancho locations. Yes, it appeared to be owned by the same owner a long time ago. All were split up and some closed. Only one Crystal Palace left which is Rancho location. I believe it is different owner there.
But this one was a Crystal Palace before it became Las Vegas Ice Center. This place was built in 1997 according to USGS. it showed the Crystal Palace rink was short lived because of the Las Vegas Ice Center.
According to Las Vegas Ice Center website, it said to have NHL Regulation rink size of 85 feet by 200 feet. From the photos outside, it is large facility. I am sure CP had about the same size rink. And yes, they do have TWO NHL sized ice rinks. Hmm! Not fair! Why roller skating rinks have only one each location?
Today, it houses LVIC and a restaurant.
The Interior.
Apparently from seeing the ice rinks, it is flat roof inside with very spacious interior and ceiling. Way high. I love the interior of this rink facility because it appeared to be very clean spacious aura inside. All white. Of course most ice rinks have white walls to match the ice rinks. Ceilings are white too.
It said to have two NHL sized rinks. Hmm, we need two rinks at roller rinks! I know the cost. Woo! Anyway, this is a very spacious facility that has 59,023 Square Feet. Woo. If it was roller, then it would have been the winner of being the World's Largest. But Guptill's remains the title holder.
The Exterior.
The whole building has a theme! It has that castle theme up front in its entirely and for the admission part for the Ice Center and a back corner as well. I believe it was even for Crystal Palace because CP's name includes Palace which is a castle. Must be this rink truly in theme of a palace at the time before it became ice rink.
It is beautifully designed on the exterior. It has Flat roof Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblock and Stucco-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
