New sign arrived but not placed in the pipes to hold up the sign. Look what Google Maps did! Weird! Floating sign! They could have at least fix it themselves. I could have but I want to make it a humor here. Final photo! Courtesy of Google Maps.

Manville Roller Rink / Crystal Roller Palace 731 S. Main St., Manville, NJ. The aftermath of the rink building that had an explosion likely by gas leak caused by flooding. You can see how deep the flood was and the ground was a slight higher on the parking lot than the street so it was pretty deep. The floating van in middle of picture was about waist deep flood water. Likely floating! Because the truck on the left is heavy and firm on ground. That is about chest deep of water! Caused by a hurricane. Courtesy of Facebook Group.

Manville Roller Rink and later, Crystal Roller Palace were at 731 South Main Street., Manville, New Jersey.
It began as Manville Roller Rink with the owner / Operator Manville Police Chief John Jasinski who lived with his family in second floor apartment above the rink.
Originally it appeared so different and with a lot of stone. Later on, it was renovated to expand and had Skirt Roof round the walls on the outside. He began that in around 1930s. I do not have specific dates yet.
Later on, it became Crystal Roller Palace. That was more well known name for the roller rink. Crystal Palace was shorter name to say as a nickname.
Rich Hughes was the manager of the Palace rink.
After that, there were a series of night clubs including Hullabaloo which was operated In the 1960’s or early 1970’s. Later, it became The Yellow Rose. Also someone said it was ChatterBox Night Club. However, that one, they lost the liquor license so it became a juice bar which flopped since everyone wanted to drink liquor.
Then that series of night clubs went away and was replaced with banquet clubs. A series of them. And Restaurants. PJ's Steakhouse was one in 2010s before it closed in 2018ish..
Then Saffron was scheduled to open. It was to be a banquet hall and restaurant. They were scheduled to open on the evening of 03 September 2021 however, merely hours before it was scheduled to have grand opening that day, Hurricane Ida came uninvited and destroyed the town which is near Newark, New Jersey which is cross river from New York City. The explosion destroyed it completely as you can see on YouTube and photographs they were completely destroyed flatting entirely. Likely it was either Natural Gas or Propane was used in the restaurant somehow blew up. It also happened roughly the same time to two other residences merely few short blocks apart (see YouTube). It occurred at 2 AM.
Fire fighters could not reach to any locations to put out the fires. They had to wait till after the flood receded. It said to be nearly a foot deep flood. Perhaps deeper in other areas.
This area often experienced flooding.
Mehta who owned Saffron Banquet Restaurant called the club his "baby" in the Facebook Live because he had to put a lot of work into reopening the facility in 2018. [He did not open until planning to open on 03 September 2021, the same day as the hurricane bowled through town.] It was kept shut due to the Great Virus Lockdown.
"The previous owners had not done anything. It was closed for four years. They had bought it at foreclosure so you can imagine it's condition. So I cleaned up the whole place, built the whole place. There was indoor cleanup, taking down the wallpaper, putting in new furniture and the chandeliers, which I bought myself," Mehta said.
Mehta wants to rebuild the club as it was doing well especially well after Gov. Phil Murphy ended his mandates on the size of indoor gatherings in place because of the pandemic. And the club was more than a wedding facility.
Someone said it was Arlan Koval built that the rink in 1930s. Not sure.
The Chief and his family lived upstairs. My older siblings are very familiar with the building and perhaps its history. I recall helping my family empty the building out in the early 1970’s.
Somewhere in past one time, the Knights of Columbia owned it. Herhaps as their clubhouse. But which dance club it was operating in during the times the KofC operated the building?
At one time the rinks had a Roller Hockey team.
The Chatterbox before the Yellow Rose? It was a nightclub in the early 80s, but I think they lost their liquor license and it ended up with just a juice bar
The fate of the Saffron Restaurant and Banquet is unknown at this time of writing (28 July 2023). It will be updated when I find out more about it. Will his restaurant rise from ashes?
Jayesh Mehta is the owner and operator of Saffron.
The Interior.
Manville Roller Rink: The wood floor would be, of course, Hardwood Maple, non-painted raw floor in 1930s. The wood floor layout is one of the most unusual. The wood pattern layout was horizonal instead of vertical on the floor. Meaning you skate over the studs rather than along the studs! A lot of thumbing! This goes for all.
