Those benches were up for sale in 2012. Must be for Skateaway closing and selling pieces like those dinettes. Very 1970s look but the rink was opened in 1981 which was about leaving the 70s look and turn into the 80s look. I used to live in an apartment with the kitchen counter with Orange countertop like that and that about same dark stain wood look (although real wood) kitchen cabinets. The bathroom also had that Orange too! The chain fence was for Roller Hockey. Source: Facebook - Speed Ticket Skating Rink.
Skateaway 3907 N Grimes St, Hobbs, NM. The DJ booth that looked so yucky 70s look with scribble marks on the booth. Yes, you are seeing that Brown "shaggy" carpet on there! Haha. This was in 2012. Selling things as well. Source: Facebook - Speed Ticket Skating Rink.
Speed Ticket Skating Rink 3907 N. Grimes St, Hobbs, NM. This was being renovated to have new half walls, new paints, everything. All that while they were opened because you can see three skaters in background. I think a temporary wall was up as you can see with the sign. Plain white walls. This was 2013. Crazy Skates 3907 N. Grimes St, Hobbs, NM. Taken in 2017. The floor was fading because of the black lines for Roller Hockey was fading. New to the rink was colored walls. Beautifully designed walls. There were three names at this location at 3907 North Grimes Street, Hobbs, New Mexico. Yes, three. First came was Skateaway followed by a strange name, Speed Ticket Skating Rink, then Crazy Skates.
On Google search, it says temporarily closed however, their Facebook ended in 2018 on both Speed Ticket and Crazy Skates. If you try the link to their website, you get a Chinese hacked site with Chinese language. Don't bother go there, please.
Local Gyms and Fitness even mentioned that Crazy Skates last post was March 31, 2018. Nothing after that. Usually Local Gyms and Fitness takes all the posts from Facebook and it is automatically posted there. I do not know how that works but they do.
It showed that Crazy Skates has closed permanently.
What more bizarre was they had a new shared business that lease the rink for a indoor football (soccer) and they opened that September but they were out by December, merely THREE months later and then the rink was under new management, or new owner.
What happened was in 1981, Skateaway began and had a long operations till May 27, 2013 when they went out of business but quickly new management took over and renamed it as Speed Ticket Skating Rink from that date till two short years later, on February 4, 2015 they were changed to Crazy Skates. Then it was sold in December 2018 and new management.. nothing we heard about so likely it is something else.
It was actually new management of a tire store. It is no longer a skating rink. Google needs to repair their mistake. I send them an edit. Someone said in Google comment that they had problems so they were forced to close in 2019. 2019? I think more like 2018. I think I know what was the problem. It was a shocker to find out on Zillow that their property taxes for 2017 was merely 227 USD but the following year, it jacked up to 4,218 (+1761.7%). That was 1,761.7 percent increase! Easily bankrupt. Something went wrong in 2018. Because of that, they had to shut down. Perhaps that football addition caused the trouble when the town saw dollar signs. Many are greedy out there. Really. That is merely my opinion.
Second choice of reason for the closing is that they have similar name to a skate brand, Crazy Skates.
