The old Rocket Skating Club Sign. They said it was at the 5800 NW 36, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma location but I think this one really came from another location. Source: Pinterest.
This sign was still up as the old name of Comet and Rocket were removed because it was part of Roll-A-Way although this was taken in 2011, Roll-A-Way never had the sign with the name on this sign. Only above the building. But clearly the owner of the property wanted that stay there as it is historic. Remember, Oklahoma is part of the Illinois to California historic route called Route 66 Mother Road. Businesses like to keep the old 50s style signs up like the Skateland of Norman did and many iconic Route 66 landmarks and buildings (Cadillac Row, trading posts, and many Americana locations). This rink is good to stop by for photo opportunity with this iconic sign. Check it out! Route 66 Tourists, be sure to stop here!
Roll A Way Rink in 2011 before the sign on top of canopy was removed. The original sign was still half empty at the time but with Skate Galaxy, they fixed it up and painted the post as well. Source Google photoshopped repaired by Dead-Rinks.
Skate Galaxy rink in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This is the renovation they did in 2013 or 2014. They later added a red paint above the rail in the background. Noticed the reflexion on the rink floor? the neon lights of both space theme and music theme. Hard to see the ceiling from this perspective that the owner took. See next photo. Source: Skate Galaxy.
SkateGalaxy rink in Oklahoma City. Noticed the ceiling lights. Some of them were on but you can see them for yourself that some of them are off. Pretty cool concept that I never seen at any rinks. They scored top for this. I give this rink 10 out of 10 for interior design. Services after I read the reviews.. Good ting their design helps their scores up. But needs work on themselves though. Taken by a skating fan (who is now one of the new owner of another rink in the same state) through Yelp.
This was a roller skating coupon for admission to Comet Skating Club during school summer vacation from May 30th to August 27th, 1975. Sorry coupon expired. Safeway offered the coupon. Safeway is a G-store (Grocery Store) and I am sure you had to spend a certain amount of money to get a free coupon. Or they were right at the cashiers that you can pick one up when you grocery shop at the time. (Seen that happened with theme parks at Burger Kings or at local G-stores). Source: OKTalk.

Before the current rink, SkateGalaxy OKC, there were in fact Comet Skating Club, Rocket Skating Club, Rollerland and Roll A Way skating rinks at this location, 5800 North West 36, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Someone on a forum at OKCTalk said Comet ran for a good 25 years. Sounds like around there. It is a very long time rink there but several generations of ownership or names changes. Comet was first and longest followed by Rocket with similar name. There is another Rocket Skating Club in Oklahoma City elsewhere and then Roll-A-Way and now SkateGalaxy. Skate Galaxy actually brought back the space theme because Roll-A-Way was not a space theme like Comet and Rocket did. Rollerland fits in somewhere.
Originally owned and operated by the Lippert Family, the very same that owns a bigger construction company, the Lippert Brothers Construction. The building today is still owned by the Lippert Family which does not operate the rink anymore. I guess the family members did not want to work anymore.
I take the family operated only the Comet and the rest were owned by others and paid lease to the family.
Sorry I have no photos of the older version of the rink. Just the Skate Galaxy which is still operational and I encourage you to go skating there and support your local rinks like this one!
SkateGalaxy is operated by Brain Zortman but the building is still owned by Lippert Family.
The Interior.
It has Sky Blue painted Polyurethane coated Concrete floor and what I love the place is that it is very clean design there. It is a Minimalist fusion with Folksy. A mix that worked well. The Minimalist part is where the rink is. Clear of designs on the floor and walls. The walls are all Snow White with Deep Red Steel Truss posts and Black ceiling. The ceiling really function well in this one to make the place feel high and limitless and those lines you see in photos when they take pictures and you can see them for yourself online, they are actually ceiling tube lights. When they want to go dark on the floor, they turn on those space themed or music themed symbols on. They have plants with rings on the ceiling as lights as well as musical symbols. The Beamed Notes and the G Clef (Treble Clef) are shown. In translation the theme there is Heavenly Music. Really interesting and catchy what I figured this out. It is really about heavenly music. You listen to the music as if you are floating through space or the galaxy or universe.
The Exterior.
It is a Gabled Roofed Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks-Walled Warehouse - like Building with front part Flat with a little bit of canopy overhang. It is Cinderblock built. It is immediately next to another gable roofed building that houses childcare. Unseen in the photo to the right is Whataburger franchise. Many skaters walked over to eat there. Most rinks would have a fast food restaurant nearby.
Plenty of parking space available.
