Courtesy of Hagen Realty. Appeared to be late 2000s.
Courtesy of Loop Net. Similar but different position. Taken around same time.
Courtesy of Google Map. Noticed in this 2016 photo it has the word, "Werx" Werx? What kind of business was it? That is gone too. It was put up for sale again. That is correct, has been a while up for sale according to Google Map. About 4 years of for sale! This property apparently looked as if it is a curse. No one wants to buy it and stayed empty for long time. Well, someone has new architectural drawings in 2020. We will see what happens. At this time of writing, we will wait and see.
All 3 photos courtesy of Hagen Realty. First, the batting cages. Likely it was 4 slots. And the location was far back of the property away from the rear of the rink leaving just a large yard between the rear parking lot and the batting cages. Likely they had a yard for other activities. I am not sure.
Final two showed the interior. Of course, it was empty inside leaving some Disco lights, 2 small mirror balls, as well as a folded party table with seating attached. Also likely I see a popcorn maker there on the floor along with a pair of sneakers, an empty cup, and possible cushioned benches.

Courtesy of Google Map. Top view to show where the batting cages were. Far off from the parking lot. Was the field for picnics or other activities? Possible.
Columbiana Skating Rink 405 West College Street, Columbiana, AL

Shadows Sportsplex 405 West College Street, Columbiana, AL
Columbiana Skating Rink and Shadows Sportsplex at 405 West College Street, Columbiana, Alabama was at one time running as a roller rink and outdoors batting cages. I do not have much information regarding Columbiana but a clue it was possible opened in 1997 after the building was built that year but closed likely in late 2000s due to the photo shown in Loop Net. however, I do with Shadows Sportsplex which was opened and operated by John Marr in 2004 until he closed and sold the property in an auction on July 27, 2011 after attempting to sell the property.
The history of the former rink continued even in 2020 as they discussed in the news. On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Shelby County Reporter, an online newspaper talked about zoning changes for the former rink. That is because on January 7, 2020, the Columbiana City Council passed a vote on rezone properties on West College Street from business (B-1 and B-2) to manufacturing (M-1). Making that the rink will no longer exist again. Likely a manufacturer or warehouse would be used.
It was not just that, the property where the rink was, originally was three parcels of property and each was zoned differently that made it difficult for any one business owner to receive a mortgage or business loan because of the variance of zoning codes. Banks prefer only one kind. This is why it was changed during 2020.
The other thing was they received an architectural plans for the former rink that the council received in February 4th, 2020. The rezoning came first then the architectural drawings. Apparently the new owner in 2020 is planning a new complex for his business. Manufacturing or a business. I will find out as time goes along what the plans are for this former rink property. It is unlikely a return to a skating rink.
The Interior.
I could not tell what floor it looked like. It does look bad shape. Was it concrete? But the color looked more like wood but it does not show that is like wood. Anyone know about this rink? Please let me know. Th e walls had different playful colors on. the majority I see in both photos are Purple. I can understand why they came up with those colors because they wanted to match to the carpetiles as you can see in the photo of the eating area. It is matching color set to that.
The Exterior.
Hard to tell. For Columbiana Skating Rink, I do not know what the appearance was however, for Shadows Sportsplex, it was clear on a map it showed just final 4 red letters, "plex" shown on the Pale Gray steel sheet wall of a warehouse like building with Steel Free-Span Truss. It had a batting cage complex. I do not have information regarding how many cages. But it was outdoors. It was Gable roof building and very plain looking. Loop Net had a photographer take picture of long closed building without the letters on and overgrown vegetation surrounding the building. Even weeds growing in front of the glass door!
