Champion Rollarena 5040 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, OH. Woo, very bluesy look. I know that the cell cam user did not clean her lens because you can see how much glare and streaks were showing from the lights. But I love this. Was that the way the 1970s photos in ads used to do that? Pretty much so. Source: Google Image User.

Champion Rollarena 5040 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, OH (official name)
"Champion Skate" 5040 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, OH (Public named it and the sign).
"Champion Skate" 5040 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, OH (Public named it and the sign).
At 5040 Mahoning Avenue North West, Warren, Ohio, a skating rink called Champion Rollarena. That is the official name. The names you heard of as: Champion Skate, and of course, Skate were just street sign name and that is how the community say it. This is an update email from K.R. I received and read today 07 March 2022. Again, official name was Champion Rollarena. He said that often people could not spell the name. Like with Chevrolet people would call it Chevy. Or some people like to call names that are not even associated at all. Like I call this mall near me, Carousel instead of Destiny (real name is Destiny USA).
UPDATE! -- Monday 07 March 2022.
This is to clarify and this email is edited for this site (short, sweet, and to the point). Here is what K.R. has to say --
The rinks official name is Champion Rollarena Inc. The "Champion Skate" thing came about due to the website being called championskate.com and we chose skate because no one could spell Rollarena, they spelled it rollerarena rollerina and various ways accept the correct way of Rollarena. The road sign simply said "SKATE" and Skate was never the business name.
The original rink was built in 1956 by Earl Brainard and that building was operated until 1974 when the heavy snow collapsed the roof. The rink was totally rebuilt in 1974 and opened in 1975, Earl's son Merlin later owned and managed the rink. Merlin's son Keith purchased the business at first and several years later on purchased the building also and ran it up until it burned down in 2019
But in December 2019, there was a massive fire that destroyed the rink which ended the run for the Champion Skate.
It would be nice to return the rink. The report you read in the source section are distorted or fake news according to K.R. I do not blame you K.R. but Dead-Rinks is not responsible for errors because we review what the media says and that is what happens. It is "What comes around goes around".. I was glad to quickly make an actual experiment with this famed quote, "What comes around goes around". therefore, this is what happens. On Friday night 11 August 2006, as I recalled because I got married next day. I went to the Deaf Coffee Night and I said I am going to get married next day and a woman on my right was shocked and then quickly she told the next. At first she said exactly the words I said but 20 to 25 Deaf people later, on my left, a Deaf man who is invited to my wedding got the news from the guy on his left and then he told me what he learned! He did not realize that he is talking to me who was then the groom. I am the groom. So, when he told me, it was different. I watched each one and they slowly change what the rumor said. I started it to see how it came out. I did catch a few Deaf people kind of.. got stuck on thinking as they got excited. When I got the result directly back, it was different. That is why people would say Skate. its not true. Champion Rollarena.
The Interior.
Non-painted, clear coated, Maple with LOG CABIN with steps style layout. They have very colorful interior with less cluttered look for the black light carpet. Many of their walls were Royal Blue. Hence the interior had much blueness and the black lights making the place so bluesy interior.. Beautiful interior. And better than Black since you can still see in the dark. One of excellent interior design I have ever seen.
All the normal such as mirror balls were there and spot lights on the ceilings.
They also had Jungle Gym playground. I do not know what the interior was like before the remodel.
They even had Red stripe around the wall of the rink.
The Exterior.
The exterior was a Gabled roof storefront like building with Free Span Steel Truss. Originally, it was Modern Colonial appearance with Red-and-White Bricks and White trim and all. Later, after 2015, they painted over beautiful bricks with School Bus Yellow along with Off-Orange trims and Blue colors. The bricks were painted yellow and rest those two colors really made the place more leaped in years in style. It appeared it jumped from Adult theme to Children theme. But as time goes by, this is normal rinks would have bright colors.
Likely they had entire renovated in 1975 hence the popular 1970s Modern Colonialism look. I love the Colonial look.
