Casino Roller Rink Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH. There is this building and the next postcard showed another building at the same place. One was a roller rink and the other a ballroom. Which is which? I do not know. Similar architecture, colors, and style of the two buildings. You can tell with the front of this one and next one plus the trees. The big tree in next one was growing in the front of the building and had a flag up but this above did not. Source eBay. Photo remastered by Dead-Rinks. (ruined area by the road on lower right so I "fixed it".)
Casino Roller Rink Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH. This version had a huge tree in front. One has to be a ballroom and the other the roller rink.
Casino Roller Rink Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH. The interior of the rink. Beautiful layout of the rink and interior. The piano is in red color? Interesting. Back then many postcards were colorization from black and white photos photographers took but the artist added red. Must have been when he was there or the photographer wrote it down. Yes, you are also seeing drums. Apparently a band played at this rink. Was there two bands playing? I am referring one to the Ballroom and the other the roller rink. Good question. Source: eBay.

Casino Roller Rink was a rink in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. The rink was operational in early 20th Century. The dates are unknown, nothing is known. The two buildings are quite similar that they may have had drawn up using one drafting set for both. Or a copy because Vellum is a heavier tracing paper. Drafters preferred that method so they can copy over or easily see through such as when they draft a floor plan and the foundation that it has to fit the same. Today, they easily can copy and paste a layer on CAD (known as Computer Aided Drafting) that CAD drafting functioned as quicker, cleaner and more detailed than ever before because the work is quick and can draw up one quickly.
Maybe the owner of the Casino wanted buildings at this resort to appear similar. Many businesses do that especially when they have a resort, hotel, or a complex. Like at the Contemporary Resort Hotel at Disney World in Florida. They have added new hotel buildings to reassembled closely to the original A-Flat-Top Modular built hotel. or its sister hotel, the Poyaisian Resort that functioned as Tiki style. They have other buildings in that immediate area to look Tiki style. Not something different. Rochester Institute of Technology or RIT in Rochester, NY which is nicknamed as Brickyard because all of the buildings there are closely reassembled to each other as brick block buildings. Each slightly different.
Well, back to the Casino, the concept is the same that perhaps the owner wanted this style. This is closely to Cottage Craftsmen Art Nouveau style which was common in its day especially for countryside such as a resort, a campgrounds, state parks, and federal lands even today would have this appearance. Very popular with CCC-- Civilian Conservation Corps in 1930s to built cabins, centers, offices, and pavilions. Of course, styles today has updated.
The park itself, was opened on July 4th, 1869. Originally was a retreat for Methodists to have their retreats annually for 10 weeks per summer. Ideally meaning Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, roughly although those two holidays were non-existence at the time. That date was when the oldest resort in the state opened. The Casinos opened sometimes later.
It became a favorite summer retreat for Ohioans.
The Casino Ballroom first opened in 1912, roller rink which I believe was in separate building but it could have been shared with the Ballroom, and they also added miniature golf. They also had a carousel, and some simple amusement rides. Kind of a trolley park but there is no evidence of that regard.
Anyone know if the Casino Ballroom was the same location as the roller rink or was it a different location?
The Interior.
It was non-painted, hardwood Maple floor in Log cabin step style layout with a piano on the side and the small stage where the band played. In the postcard you can even see the drums left on there. It was open ceiling with exposing Wood trusses. Feel very spacious. When entering, you have to walk at least 3 to 4 steps up.
The Exterior.
Tall Red French Hip Roof design with Forestry Green walls and White trims. Very much of a forestry style cottage pavilion like.
