Casino Park Roller Rink Casino Park, 268 Rae Ave, Mansfield, OH
Casino Park Roller Rink Casino Park, 268 Rae Ave, Mansfield, Ohio. This rink is in question. I discovered it said "Rink" in Billboard in the 7 April 1958 issue, page 29. It was part of a listing. However, it failed to mention one or the other, "Ice" or "Roller" Some of the listing said "Roller Rink." Well, good question. Most Trolley Parks back the day had roller rinks as part of their dance halls. Often they would have dance halls for patrons to go for dancing as part of afternoon or evening session. Today, Amusement Parks do not have that at all. Unfortunately. Trolley Parks were in fact more of an outdoor recreation center than an amusement park you might find in your travels such as at Disney, Universal, Six Flags, or any independents like Seabreeze would do.
I was researching in that magazine for another rink and I ended up with that page. I was researching for Willow Beach Park Roller Rink and that is how I found it.
This brings good question about this park. It does appear to have the necessities to be a roller rink at their dance halls. Their hall was no coincidence, it was called The Casino. Not that casino you are thinking of today at any Native American nations or in Vegas or in Atlantic City. Not the same. Casino means a hall. It is an old term. It is an Italian term means house. Sure it is Casa as you may think but it has more definition to it. it means social club house or a summer house. Many dance halls back the day did look like a summer house because it made sense that it was part of summer entertainment and recreation auditorium.
The word Casino was very common in toward end of 19th Century and early 20th Century. It made sense with the name because this Casino Amusement Park had its beginning in
The Casino was elevated with stairs for patrons to walk up. I see two versions of the Casino building. They renovated in 1921 I believe.
The original owner/operator was Citizens Electric RV, Light, and Power Company. That was a Trolley and electricity company.
I have no open and no closure dates.
Today it is North Lake Park.
The Interior.
At one end there was a stage and the rest of the floor all Maple, with no painting on it. It was all open spaces but had Wood posts on edge of rink/floor similar to several Dance Halls at parks including Willow Beach Park (for example.
The Exterior.
It was a Gabled Roof Free-Span Wood Trusses Wood - Walled Barn Arena - like Building.
At one time, they built a swimming pool right next to the Casino building. They renovated the building at the same time to built a bathhouse included.
