Courtesy of Google Map. Taken in 2017. That is how it looked since 1973. Basic design that is quite similar to other rinks in the South even to Starlite, Starburst, Sparkles, and any other rinks you seen on here at Dead-Rinks. Those rinks are not related business-wise.

Carousel Skate Center was one of the two rinks in Alabama. This one being at 1201 Winner St. SW, Huntsville, AL which was closed on February 11, 2018.
This rink was much storied by skaters and fans of this peculiar rink. It was clearly a memorable rink for many. It was well delivered for skaters with themes, activities, and being in right market at the right time at the time.
Unfortunately, they closed in February 2018 for a reason. It was around for a long time since they founded on August 1, 1973 as roller skating was increasing popular thanks to Roller Disco of the 1970s. It survived through downturns of 1980s and late 1990s-2000s.
Having said it was opened in 1973. The theme colors was Maroon Red or Deep Red which was popular at the time. Another rink was full of this red. Carpet, bricks, etc. Even you can see that on Space Academy starring the late Jonathan "Dr. Smith" Harris that you remember seeing on Saturday mornings on CBS in 1977. Youtube has them so you are welcome to see it.
It was also an attempt to retain carnival feel of the 1970s (you can even check out 49th Street Galleria in Utah among a few other rinks with that flair font, carnival feel.. ) There were other Carnival as name brand like the one recently defunct in the NE US including Carnival Skate which also had similar color themes.
They renovated in 2017 only to have floor damaged in 2018 and quickly repairs only not enough to remain business. I think they sold the building after what happened with the flood. It was sold on February 14, 2018 for 1.5 Million US Dollars. Previously it was sold on September 9, 2014 for cheap price of 100,000 USD! That comes to 4 Dollars per Square Foot! Now when it was sold in 2018, that was 50 Dollars per SF. Hmm. The next paragraph explained why but this is business standard way of covering the truth. Maybe the flood damages? Money loss? And declining attendees.
This is the reason why they were closing this location-- "The owners and staff, of Carousel Skate Center, have sad but exciting news. On February 12, 2018 we will close for business. We are consolidating our businesses into one location, in order to better serve you. We can offer more amenities and services at one rink. We love and value our customers and hope to see you soon at Rollertime Skate Center 707 Arcadia Circle." Originally Rollertime Skate Center was none other than Carousel Skate Center too. They must have been reorganized to rebrand themselves with a new name.
I just discovered that even before that, there was Skate Odyssey at this location. However, I do not have much information because online, it was giving me another location in same town. Some rinks did have more than on rink in same location. There are a couple of confirmation saying that Skate Odyssey was located at this same rink in Carousel.
Why did they say Carousel was opened in 1973 and then become Skate Odyssey in 1990 then there was Carousel still using that name?
This place was also called Skate Centers of Huntsville and even The Private Party Rink as well. But I could not find any information but I got those names from the lists of rinks back in 1990s and 2000s. The name, The Private Party Rink gave me a laughter because it is so funny. Sound like it was for private parties only. Yeah right. It could be any parties.. even Bachelor's parties, Bachelorette's parties. you name it. I am glad they got rid of that name for that reason. This is my opinion.
The Interior.
Beautiful Carousel / carnival theme rink with much redness but also even sporting actual carousel horses up on above the skate rental. It has colorful vinyl canopy over the rental booth. This clear Polyurethane coated log cabin format maple floor even had White Polyurethane plastic coating covering it and they suddenly had a flood in late August 2017. It is sad after all that hard work they did in April 2016. They closed six months after the flood. It was a beautiful facility inside. Really.
They had popular Starburst lights but the difference they did was to add the downward to an angle. It was to make it more of a spider. They had two spiders-like Starburst lights and the diamond ball.
The Exterior.
It was a standard flat roof Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse Building. It had kind of Salmon colored Steel-walled with Brick base and where the Steel Truss support is, vertically. After they closed, they painted in Off-White.
The Stats:
Rink Size: 14,000 SF. Floor: Originally Clear coated Polyurethane Maple, in 2016, added White Polyurethane coat. Floor Layout: FAN.
Building Size: 24,000 SF. Built: 1973. Demolished: N/A.
