Carman Roller Skating Rink 3226 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA. Wow, that is old flashing lights sign. You can tell how Amber Yellow the white panel for the sign has become. Many broken lights and have no light blubs. The Skate sign is below that sign. Source: Four Square.
Carman Roller Skating Rink 3226 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA. Pine Waincotting. I love those walls. Not the fake one with panels! And Maple wood floor. I could not tell what the layout of the wood. I believe the back corner pretty much in black.. Pitch Black that is. Could be where the DJ was at. Source: Google Images.

Carman Roller Skating Rink 3226 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They included other variations of names slightly differently including Carman Gardens Skating Rink and New Carman Roller Skating Rink.
I believe that they changed because of different ownership. I strongly believe Carman Gardens were first followed by New Carman Roller Skating Rink and often people call it Carman Roller Skating Rink or even Carman Skating Rink (not listed above).
Originally this place used to be a movie theater prior becoming roller rink in 1932 according to Philly Voice.
According to Manta, Carman Roller Skating Rink began in 1993. However, Manta is in error. So was Dun and Bradstreet. Perhaps it was reorganized as Carman Roller Skating Rink therefore the "New" was omitted. According to Philly Voice, Roger Lloyd has owned New Carman Roller Skating Rink since the 1970s. That was an article and a photograph of Roger on there. This verify that it was truly called New Carman Roller Skating Rink since the 1970s. Carman Gardens Skating Rink was around since 1932. It was possible that Roger Lloyd reorganized the business in 1993. Right and wrong on those two websites.
This rink interior really makes you feel homely basic roller rink that was stable for so many years. 83 years by 2014.
It did however, for a time to become a private party skating rink but apparently did not become successful as you can see on Facebook.
Side note: Roger Lloyd's name on Dun & Bradstreet spells as Roger Loyde. Almost the same spelling and sounds the same. Which one is really his name spelled?
Lloyd said that he prefer to sell the rink to the right buyer who would reopen and operate as roller rink. Third operator to run it. Lloyd was the second. Google Map showed it is still roller rink because of the signs but all boarded up. It is sad no one bought it. No for sale signs. If you want to buy it, ask your local realtor or the realtor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to assist you finding out if it is up for sale.
Lloyd was even nice enough to sell at a half million Dollars instead of accepting assessed at 950,000 USD. This was in 2015! Not 2022! If that was the case. It is easily assessed at 3 Million USD today -- my guess. Why? Beautiful building! Both inside and out. Worth to look at today but becareful because of the neighborhood according to Lloyd saying it is dangerous and they did shoot up his front door of the rink.
Roger Lloyd, thank you for your service defending the Constitution of the United States of America and our Faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. God bless you.
The Interior.
Carman Gardens Skating Rink: Likely they had Maple floor. Considering its small size of 12,000 Square Feet, the rink itself was small also. Renovations is possiblity they had between opening and being sold in the 1970s. The interior was very 1930s with Pine waincotting walls, wood floor. and very basic unlike any modern fancy expensive looking roller rinks. This was common with this look back the day as it was luxury to them back the day. Just simple design.
New Carman Roller Skating Rink: Likely they had Maple floor. Considering its small size of 12,000 Square Feet, the rink itself was small also. However, it was likely renovated in the 1970s and perhaps at least one more to keep it dated. The appearance was quite similar since 1930s. Basic, simple with Pine waincotting. Maple floor. Things like that.
The Exterior.
Carman Gardens Skating Rink: Brick building. Close to the roads sitting on a corner. Only sidewalk width between the road and the building. Flat roof. Likely Steel trusses however, columns/posts? Possible. Original color for the bricks were Dark Red.
New Carman Roller Skating Rink: Same. But the difference is that a new sign was added to mention the new name. In fact Roger Lloyd was kind to history that the original name, Carmen Gardens was still there. Each of the old sign on the corner of German Town Avenue at West HIlton Street (modern streets seen on Google Map). The bricks seemly turned more Brownish Red.
