Benton Lane Park Roller Rink, (street number private due to private residency at location) Highway 99W, Junction City, Oregon
This rink was way outside of Junction City, Oregon. According to the Map, it has changed quite a bit. It was an old rink. It had a quite a history. It was a 20 acres recreation park including swimming pool, baseball field, dance pavilion, and a children's playground according to an article in The Eugene Guard, Thursday August 8, 1946. It also had a coffee shop, a race track, and a picnic area. It was also an amusement park. From the looks of photos and whats what, it looked more like a trolley park because of its location outside of a city. But it was a semi-recreation park and semi-amusement park. A hybrid I would have to say because it had amusement park rides such as a train ride, skating, etc.
In 1926, the park was opened by Mallorys who ran the park till 1946. Then it was sold in 1946 only to be put up for sale again the following year and it was finally sold in 1957. It was for sale for 9 years! NINE years. The only difference was the swimming pool which was under different ownership at the park.
But it was sold again in 1966. But the business kind of slowed down and they closed the pool in 1978. Skating rink perhaps closed around 1986.
In 1986, the homeowner who skated as a child purchased the rink and converted into a private home. On the Google Map, it did also show a race track. Looks like the size of a high school running track. Yes, the pool is still there. Likely a new pool that is. And not the same pool. The pool house had Quonset Hut style building. The ghost of the track is still there too.
The rink itself was a long hung roof building with wood floor.
There are other buildings there all rusted and one of the building has collapsed due to street level of Google Map. The Benton Lane Park still exist but its a private park with several homes as well.
Please respect private owners of that property since it is all residential homes. Thank you for understanding. It is not Dead Rinks or the Dead Rinks website owner's responsibility. Please do not attempt to disturb residents.
