For a brief time in the 20th Century they had a roller rink in this World's Largest Coliseum, the Araneta Coliseum. It was nicknamed The Big Dome. The design on the exterior especially the roof reminded me of the Houston Astrodome. Just a little bit. Now that I would love to buy the Houston Astrodome to turn into a roller rink if they are not going to use it in Houston because the new version is right next door.
It was said to be in 1960s or 1970s when they had roller rink there. Perhaps on periodically basis, not all the time. Specials only because they had concerts, religious events, trade shows, conventions, speakers, you name it. The Coliseum still stands today but it does not have roller rink anymore.
This source is given to me by a source, Nicole of Manila, Philippines.
Thank you Nicole.
It was built in 1960. The arena is still operational today with the same purposes with concerts, basketball, concerts, religious events or fellowships, and more. It was named after the founder, Jesús Amado "Amading" Sitchon Araneta who was an affluent businessman.
The Interior.
The seating arrangement is similar to the Flavian Amphitheater style arrangement of seating as it is like with the stadiums anywhere in the world for sport courts and concerts and presentations or sermons are arranged.
Likely they had Maple wood floor due to era and ability to quickly layout tongue-and-groove attachments of planks or studs for superior flexibility of setting up and removal in short period of time because of prior and post commitments scheduled at The Big Dome. (Do not confuse The Big Dome with the Dome which is the Dome at the Syracuse University campus in Syracuse, NY. Previously named as Carrier Dome or currently as JMA Wireless Dome).
Likely the rink side would be the same as a hockey rink, maybe Olympic Size which is 200' x 100'.
The Exterior.
The style of this Coliseum was a similar format to that of Roman style Coliseums although the Coliseum you think of in Roma, Italia is called the Coliseum is not properly named Coliseum. it is the Flavian Amphitheater or some call it Colosseum which is the same as Coliseum in Italian. But the one in Rome/Roma is actually is and always named as Flavian Amphitheater. Anyway, This modern interpretation was built before the Houston Astrodome and first of modern style in this era from 1960s on. I believe the Astrodome was sort of modeled after this kind. Madison Square Garden is another although MSG is in its current design was opened in 1968. Of course MSG is the most famous modern coliseum. It was the Araneta Coliseum the first of this type of architecture.
As having said, it has circular form of structure likely with poured concrete walls and panels for rooftop. It is has a lot of openness for the walls for air circulation considering the considerable amount of humidity and tropical heat where it is located.
Standard circular form stadium with a dome. It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses, Steel -built, Poured Concrete - Walled Coliseum with a Circular Segmental Arch dome.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
