Dimond Skateland (active rink) Notice the skate on a post? This was the most realistic skate I ever seen so far in my research. True to scale enlarged for public to see the skate. The building in background is the current operating Dimond Skateland. Yes, it spells that way, not diamond. Dimond Skateland. The reason for explaining this was the larger-than-life skate on the post was originally at the former Anchorage Great Skate. However, seeing on Google Map. no longer there. Source: Dimond Skateland.
Anchorage Great Skate 2809 Arctic Blvd, Anchorage, AK The rink was on the right side of the series of buildings seen in the photo. The section where the current baby supply store was not part of where the rink was. Only the garden store. Source: Google.

It may be confusing to you with the names but that is what I found. Two different names but at the same location and starts with Anchorage. But one was Great Skate and the other as Roller Rink. Not much information regarding to Great Skate but know more about Anchorage Roller Rink.
It was said to be open in 1963 by Albert Waddell with his wife, Ethel and his son in law Tom Hughes. When Albert retired during the mid 1970's, he sold the Anchorage Roller Rink to his daughter Carolyn and her husband Ed Caldwell. The Caldwell's opened a second rink, Dimond Skateland which is still operational today. They closed the Anchorage Roller Rink in the mid-1980's.
The giant skate on a post outside of the rink was relocated to their current rink, Dimond Skateland.
It later became a garden supply store as seen on Google Map.
Albert Waddell and his son-in-law Tom Hughes also opened Royal Roller Rink in 1971 and sold it to Tom and his daughter, Janis (yes, spelled like the famed Woodstock musician, Janis Jopln). when Albert retired in Mid 1970s. Likely the name Anchorage Great Skate was operational when Albert and Tom ran it till it was sold to his daughter and son-in-law whom they changed the name. But I am not sure.
Tom and Janis did not marry until sometime in the 70's.
The rink floor was covered with some kind of commercial tile (no grout).
J.L. was telling me in her email today on 01 August 2023 that she attempted to have a reunion. I know how you feel. Not easy to get everyone on board to come. I do not know when you tried but have you thought of trying it again?
The Interior.
The skating rink floor as J.L. told me that it was "...covered with some kind of commercial tile (no grout). It was a great surface to skate on." (01 August 2023).
Anyone can confirm and what it was really like? I do not have any photos of interior. Anybody?
The Exterior.
It was a very much of a commercial retail center look with Cinderblocks and Flatted Roof.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
