America On Wheels Amusement, 5180 N Us Highway 1, Melbourne, FL (First rink)
America On Wheels Extreme Skate Park, 5180 N Us Highway 1, Melbourne, FL (Final Rink)
This roller rink was called America on Wheels however, according to a website listing all the America on Wheels, it was not listed. Was it missed out by a webmaker on his website, USA Roller Skating? It is possible but could be just happened to have similar name but no relations to the franchise they used to own quite a bit back the day.
There is not much information because I have no photograph of the former rink. However, only I could find is a Google Map I can show you. It is visually shown clearly at this current automobile dealership/auction place. You can see cars are parked at this paved rink with the rails still standing. Apparently the rest of the building has been demolished. AOW is usually indoors skating rink facility. Apparently it was an indoor rink but it is gone. hard to tell how big the building it was but the rink itself apparently a full hockey rink size because of the size of cars fitted in the rink plus there is a hockey goal paint job still visibility shown. See photo above.
Now, the rink building disappeared. Only I have information about set up. There were two separate ownership but shared same name: America on Wheels. The latter one was a skating park.
I cannot say much to go on because I have no photos. Anyone that has photos, please provide photos you have of the rink (of course, no people on it). When I do have yours, with your permission, I will post this page on the website.
Rink Size: Likely 85 x 200 (full NHL) Floor: Asphalt Floor Layout: Hockey platform, standard.
Building Size: N/A. Building is gone.
Operated: (America on Wheels Amusement): April 14, 1995 to September 22, 2000
(America on Wheels Extreme Skate Park): June 9, 1999 to September 22, 2000
Reason for Closure: N/A. Name was changed because it was sold in 1999. But only lasted a year. Fire? Flatted by Hurricane (It was beach front skating rink). We do not know.
Wanted: Information regarding why sold and closed for good. Photos of before and after.
