Most pictures are really from Loopnet but found through Facebook Fan page for the rink. I apologize for the blurred pictures. I found them small on their gallery. The smaller it is, the harder to zoom it to be bigger. They could have snipshot and made it bigger from Loopnet. Unfortunatley I cannot get them directly from Loopnet because they did not have any of the interior as of March 9, 2019. At the time, Kym who started that fan page posted the link saying there are photos of interior. That was because she posted it in 2015. 4 years ago and apparently was taken down by the Realtor on Loopnet. Again, sorry! I will repost when I have the good clear digital photos.
Aloha Skate Island, 12080 Pattern Drive, Florissant, MO
That was the name of this rink in St. Louis, Missouri, not Hawaii. Perhaps it was because of several other Aloha name brands for other businesses in the area. Only God knows why this was named Aloha Skate Island. It was started in Feb 29, 1972. It ran until they closed in around October 2010 according to Loopnet. Wilbur Bing started the rink business.
It was a bit modern building perhaps at the time before it became all dud looking in that picture seen in Loopnet. It was Rustic Steel Red color on all of that building including the trim above the wall, and even the doors itself. I doubt that was the real look when the rink was in business. It had flat roof. I have a feeling it was different color on the outside before it was all painted Rusted Red color.
I am unable to capture more pictures that was shown on Loopnet. It was removed I believe after it became no longer available. According to Kym on Facebook, she said a lot more and I wish she could have downloaded all the pictures on Facebook then I would have used it. I found them in the gallery of that fan page on Facebook. Different skaters posted it on there and I wish it was bigger to view.
The rink throughout had that tropical theme feel to it. It had no faux palm trees or even real ones in the building however, all were on murals. Tropical theme on the wall, and even half walls that were made of cinder blocks. They had a lot of Light Sky Blue for sky on the walls with clouds and palm trees and beaches. Makes you feel like you are skating on the beach!? Haha. Good one, Wilbur Bing!
The carpet, however, did not go with it. It was kind of Rustic Red carpet. Should have chose Sand Tan color. The area off the rink was very comfortable and clean looking. It sported that 1970s half wall with RED BRICKS! It did not go with the rest of the place. But I love bricks to be honest. And it had that 1970s Globe outdoors street lamp inside. It was by the snack bar area. Of course a limited number of lockers, skate rental.. and I do not see any pictures well enough to see snack bar. It was well clean not cluttered like some modern day gangster graffiti or galaxy theme look full of neon. Aloha Rink felt more relaxing because of the main color- Blue. They say Blue and Green colors are relaxing colors. No stress because you need that while skating. The aura of this rink is pretty much functionary.
It was a real refreshing for 2000s before it closed in 2010. It had that 1980s or even 1970s feel for 2000s. I believe it was perfectly redone to make it 1980s again. They nailed it. No rink today can capture that. Unfortunately the rink closed and sold. That breaks my heart.
