Alcyon Park Skating Rink Holly Avenue, Pitman, New Jersey was opened in 1890s until 07 July 1945 when they had the park auction selling off everything including the rink. The owners were two brothers, George W. Carr and Dr. Henry Carr But George Carr died in 1935 due to stroke and other illness. However, in 1933 the rink was leased. Rink Operator at the time was Atlantic City Amusement Company, Both J.V.Morasco and M. Dominick Borrelli operated 1933 on.
Now about the park, Alcyon Park. It was operating from 1890s to 1944, just before the rink which was the last activity to close and auctioned off on 07 July 1945.
Alcyon Amusement Park was a large park located by Alcyon Lake in Pitman, NJ. The lake was popular with both bathing and fishing.
Built in the 1890's, the park first consisted of a boardwalk, a bath house, bowling alleys, a tobaggan ride, a merry-go-round, a roller rink, and a half-mile dirt racetrack.
A theater and two restaurants were added in the early 1900's.
They had a basketball team.
In 1910 a speedway was added. At it's peak, crowds from 10,000 to 35,000 would visit the park in a single day. But during WW II, attendance dwindled due to the war and so, in 1944, the amusement park closed.
Most of the buildings were demolished. The speedway continued to operate for many years after the park. But in 1960, the speedway also closed.
An apartment complex has been built on the front part of what used to be the park, but most of the site of the Alcyon Amusement Park has been transformed into a beautiful civic park.
The new Alcyon Park contains ballfields, picnic pavilions, and walking paths. It has beautiful greenery and a waterfront along Alcyon Lake. There are no remnants of the amusement park left.

For abandoned rinks, after you receive permission, do WEAR safety OSHA equipment including a safety glasses, pair of safety gloves, an orange vest or a jacket, and a construction helmet.
Thank you for understanding.
Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
