All of Google Map. Original had narrow old fashioned skating rink building although was in business since 1987. The newer location at the 1225 6th Ave SE, just 8 short blocks away. It was taken as it was already just closed. Then the current building as ReStore. It had added trees and nice ground. Then bottom picture shows the size of newer rink location as ReStore but also notice the skateboard park which has a name quite similar but only difference it has word, "Park" instead of "Way"

(Now as Albany Skatepark, 1227 6th Ave SE, Albany, OR
This is one of two Albany Skateway rinks in same town with similar name. The other being on Montgomery SE. This rink had several names.
However, what remains left is the Albany Skate Park which is literally on the other side of the parking lot. The Skate park has in ground pools of different banks and curves for skateboarders, outdoor skaters, and Cyclists to do their stunts.
Originally, it was just indoor roller rink in the 16,320 SF sheet metal warehouse building built not too long ago. In 1999 it was built and it was short lived. The rink folded in just September 15, 2003. That is just 4 years. That would quite be expensive to get a loan and invest into a rink and it was short lived. Now it appeared to be a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, a thrift store selling home and building materials.
This is odd because the owners of Albany Skateway had this building constructed in 1999 and it was another rink at the same location before it became Albany Skateway called Hermiston Skateway. Did something happened to the building before it was rebuilt in 1999. Anyone know anything? Likely something may have happened because if Hermiston Skateway was opened in 1992, something happened in 1998/1999 that they had to built new building but only lasted 4 years.
This is a conflict of naming because of the Skateway was on Montgomery Street, the old location which was merely eight blocks away according to the map.
The original building looked antiqued although Albany Skateway began in 1987! The original building on Montgomery was wood built Hip Gable building right near a small in-city park that has swimming pool. Could have stayed there.
The owner of the rink, David Kuntz, had the new building built in 1999 and opened on March 2000. The reason it was short lived is because he was hoping his loyal customers would be coming to the newer larger skating rink but it was 8 blocks away. Likely those same patrons were from the original location that many walked or just drive a block away or whatsoever. This is my opinion.
Sadly, the new investment backfired because of high risk of expendires compared to patrons coming. Since the regulars were not coming to the new location. He soon had to file bankruptcy in december 2001, just a year and half after opening, and quickly sold the building to be leased back that month and in time before the auction in February 2002. However, the lease back did not help either. So, David closed for good in 2003.
According to Buzzfile, Hermiston Skateway is another name for Albany Skateway which began in 1992. But that did not help either.
Only remains is the skate park next door. The new owner of the building had to sell the building starting in September 2003. Finally sold in 2008 to the ReStore.
