Akron Rollercade Skating Center and later, GSFE Cade Roller Skating Rink were at 1615 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio. Those two rinks were operational for a while.
As for GSFE Cade Roller Skating Rink, I think I know why it was shut down because of its troubles with crimes surrounding the rink. On March 8, 2015, three teenagers were arrested for disorder conduct or was going to resist and fight against the police. There were police present because of crimes occurred before that including a series of incidents involving teens fighting, blocking traffic, trespassing, menacing and stealing from the rink and in immediate area during the two to three months prior to the 3 teenagers fighting the police and got themselves arrested.
This rink was on the radar of the local police department’s Neighborhood Response Team. With that incident with the arrest, four officers were at the rink were directing teens to depart the rink in orderly fashion. But because of the fights, three more officers arrived at the scene.
I do not know what G.S.F.E. stands for. Anyone? I do not see anything that spells the entire name instead of the initials of 4 letters, G.S.F.E.
Update! --
I received this email from a gentleman name of John whose father was a skating teacher/coach and John spend time at several rinks including Akron Skateland. Here is what he has to say--
It was a large building with an organ booth on the far side. As you look across the floor from the end, on the right was a wall. On the left there were wooden bleachers that had access ramps like a stadium would have. I am thinking that the bleachers probably had 7 or 8 rows of benches.
The Interior.
It had non-painted polyurethane coated Maple floor. The size of the rink is unknown and the walls were simple as seen in one photograph. It had some banner hanged up at the time it was taken. It appeared to be very Soft Yellow or Cream color on the wall. That was a bit unusual color choice out of all rinks I have known on this site. I appreciate more pictures if you have any.
The Exterior.
It is a Flat Roof Cinderblock and Brick building. It was an attempt to be stylish with two different tones but it did not really work well if you look up close to see the material. It was a bad marriage between Brown Bricks and Off-white Blocks. It did not work. Those two mismatched. Although the building looked very much like a small industry business.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Non-painted Maple. Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: 26,000 SF. Built: 1972. Demolished: Still standing.
