1958 Brunswick Gold Crown Bowling equipment. This is a dealer or manufacturer film presentation for their potential new customers to view at the time. It is the 1958 models shown. There are a couple of funny clips in there that you have to watch. I did not realize anything about crossing the line and the alarm goes off and speaker.. I am Deaf! Ha. Second of all, that kid.. oops! He fell but he made it a Strike! Good for him! (got to be staged). Since I have no photos of the Air Lanes Recreation Center. This is only way I can show is those brochures, both print and film. Sorry no rink. Courtesy of Brunswick Corporation / YouTube.
Air Lanes Recreation Center Rt. 34, Monmouth County Airport, Wall Township, NJ
Air Lanes Recreation Center Rt. 34, Monmouth County Airport, Wall Township, New Jersey was originally a bowling alley. Then they added the roller rink.
The owner / operator Edward Brown owned the recreation center who also owned the airport. He operated from Saturday 29 February1959, the day they opened until 1962 when he sold it to Operator Roy Kurre but Edward Brown, purchased the Recreation Center back before the fire in 1965. Ouch! Bad investment timing!
The addition in 1962 was roller skating. It only ran from Friday, 03 August 1962 to Friday, 12 March 1965. because of the fire. Short lived! Edward Brown did not make any attempt to rebuilt the center. Apparently the airport was other source of income for him.
The worth to the building and equipment were half a Million US Dollars. Edward never rebuilt. The fate of the airport.
The airport itself, the Monmouth County Airport grew and it is presently owned by an airline company and it is now Monmouth Jet Center. It has a runway longer than LaGuardia International Airport has!
Edward Brown passed away in 2006.
Not much history! Short lived on the rink and bowling centers.
Interesting to note. The name Air Lanes Recreation is unique because the name Air is related to the airport and in fact, part of the airport! It was in a hanger next to the airport. Lanes is related to the Bowling Lanes.
The Interior.
Due to its short history, no photograph was available and could not describe a 1000 words to it. So, sorry about that however, if any of you skaters or family members of the Browns, please contact Rink-History and send me the photographs if any and/or well description of the interior and exterior. If there are any renderings, great. Would love to see them.
Another thing, blue prints are always available at the zoning and taxes departments. Check them out! Would appreciate them. Usually they are not online because those blue prints are massive drawings usually in the size C or D or greater. Size A is.. your typing paper or copying paper size 8.5 x 10 or 11. Tablet is 13 x 17. Size B is doubled of A, Size C is triple, D is four times. You get the idea.
If you can, check their office and ask if they have blue prints. If not historical society may have them.
The advertisement said they had a dozen Brunswick Gold Crown Tables but was that installed in 1962 at the Air Lanes? The Brunswick Gold Crown model did not exist till 1961. So, likely they were adding a Billiard room along with the Roller Rink at the same time in 1962.
If it was Brunswick Tables, likely the bowling center had Brunswick brand bowling equipment and benches.
The Exterior.
Same answer as above. No photos available and check with those offices. My educated guess would be an airport hanger. Usually a Raised Quonset Hut style large to roll a plane in the hanger for repairs. Many businesses had their offices or stores at that airport until it was sold and forced out by the new owners of the airport which is in my opinion nuts.
The front where the fire happened and shown in the papers showed a Google Style Slant Canopy. Common in 1950s that many architectural structures such as buildings had slant roof like that. Most famous of all is the McDonalds Kroc edition (Downey, CA still that and its a landmark).
They had a lot of glass up front by the doors. Clearly it was a very modern facility.

None. The specific spot is unknown. The airport is now private and only for private and some commercial airlines fly there including Amazon, FedEx, Jet Blue, and Spirit and I am sure others by now. Airport is an hour drive from Manhattan (island) in New York, 12 minutes by Helicopter. If only I had the money to buy Rink-History a jet, some of us can fly to this city so we can go skating in Northern Jersey and Greater NY Metro! Wink!

Some states allow purple paint on fence which means they even have guns on their property and have rights to shoot you. Please DO NOT attempt to enter property without permission!
For abandoned rinks, after you receive permission, do WEAR safety OSHA equipment including a safety glasses, pair of safety gloves, an orange vest or a jacket, and a construction helmet.
Thank you for understanding.
Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
