I do not know which came first because there were no business records I can find for now. But they sold the building on February 2, 2006. But having seen Google Map. Many buildings were torn down in that area. Both side of the street. Was one of the rink operated after it was sold in 2006 until the tornado struck there? Yes, I got that information about the tornado hit Baxter Springs on Sunday, 27 April 2014 at 5:45 p.m.
After the clean up on that property where the rink was, was empty for a while from 2014 to 2019 when a new business had built their hair salon. The owner took a beautiful picture of sun set with lights on.. Oh wow. Really beautiful job, owner!
But sadly, another rink gone. So, Route 66 fans, sorry the rink is gone. But I see Baxter Springs still have some unique Route 66 memorabilia to see though as well as along the Mother Road between downtown Chicago, Illinois and Santa Monica Pier in California A worth of trip to see the Mother Road, fans! I am sure there are other rinks on Mother Road. I worked on at least 2 to 3 rinks that were on or just off of Route 66 are closed. One still operational though, so far. I researched by asking fans on Facebook but the Route 66 fans do not know. Apparently they are not skaters. Anyone? And do you know more about those rinks on Route 66 including this rink that was in Baxter Springs?
They built a new building on there for a beauty salon called, Beauty Bar. Also a new dollar store kitty corner from the old rink recently built.
UPDATE! -- 23 June 2022.
I received the email from the past owner of the rink and here is what she has to say.
I owned the [Baxter] rink for 3 and a half years. From 2003 to 2006. I closed it because the roof and the back wall was getting ready to cave in. There was a leak in the ceiling and I couldn't keep it warm in the winter. I miss it.

Former owner of Baxter Skating Center.

None. Vacant. Well, you can see the empty land. It is all cleaned up so there is nothing you can search for. Unless you can go magnet fishing and find anything metallic on that spot. But besure you ask the town for permission or get a magnet fishing license. Please read on.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
